In this video, I show you how to create a vector portrait of a cat using Inkscape. Inkscape has some very versatile tools to create vector art for free. I’m going to show you step by step how you can use Trace Bitmap to convert a photo into beautiful vector art.

I’ll be explaining how to use Trace Bitmap to convert an image into either a coloured or black and white vector copy, I’ll also be using Clipping and Masking to get the visual effect I want. I’ll cover how you can use feathering to soften an image's edge while keeping your image in sharp focus.

I also show you some of the pitfalls that might cause you problems, and how you can fix them.

In this tutorial, I’m using the latest version of Inkscape – Inkscape 1.3.1

Yeah I always change the bitmap copy settings in the tool options to 300dpi as I use it for printing.

I stand corrected but I think in the latest releases one can use the middle mouse wheel while hovering over the opacity slider on the bottom left. I could be wrong about the placement of where it is
