My behs players dad was in a Uk funk band (Cyamande) in the 70's, sampled by De La Soul and others in the 90's and 2000's. He made very little from the original band, but the samples paid for his house. Pretty sure Labi Sifri made quite a bit from this track being sampled compared to the original recording too.

Labe Siffre's song "My Song" was also sampled by Kanye West on "I Wonder"

The Labi Siffre track 'I've got the...' is amazing musical journey with loads of great bits in it.

Chas was also part of Joe Meek's studio band The Outlaws with a guitarist called Ritchie Blackmore. "What happened to him?" you may ask; he would later form a reasonably popular beat combo called Deep Purple.

Chas ‘n’ Dave, bona fide legends. This is a hill I will die on. Quality musicians who sang and played without a care for trends and who remained true to their roots. Proper.

I feel so good every time I see someone discover something I’ve been knowing about and know exactly what they’re gonna say

Chas and Dave were legends when I was a kid. Working class lads who'd made it. They played everywhere too and won over a lot of people that way.

I see your Chas and raise with Fernando Saunders, who's bass line on Lou Reeds "Wild Side" was sampled on A Tribe Called Quests song "Can I Kick it?". Arguably the best song either group made

Chas and Dave were anything but a “comical band”. They were accomplished multi-instrumentalists, phenomenal songwriters and brilliant performers.

“Ain’t No Pleasing You” is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful love songs ever recorded.

I’m sure I’ve missed some videos, but a Hip-Hop bass player list or showcase would be pretty awesome.
OutKast has had some killer bass lines that rival old Motown lines.

I’ve been a bassist since the age of 13, and this is entirely due to Chas Hodges

My uncle was an A&R guy for about 10 different record labels in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, in 1977 after I’d been learning to play guitar for about 3 years he took me down Denmark Street to buy a pedal or something and we bumped into Chas Hodges, after chatting for about twenty minutes about my mediocre guitar skills he said “Learn to play bass son, nobody wants to be the bassist and you’ll get more gigs and more money because they need you!”

How correct he was

I played my first gig in my school’s sixth form band two days before my fourteenth birthday

RIP Chas

Chas and Dave were awesome in their own way. Like a slightly more modern cockney flanders and swann .

I ran into this listening to a soul genre mix on Pandora radio while doing yard work. I was giddy.

Day 172 of asking for Brian Gibson's bass tone from Lightning Bolt!

Love the Dead Kennedys shirt by the way

Had the extreme pleasure of seeing Chas and Dave about 10 years ago before Chas (and my mother who I attended with) both passe away. I was arguably half the age of most of the people in attendance.
Incredible musicianship and highly underrated. If you’ve not had some Rockney (that’s Chas and Dave’s signature cockney-rock) in your life, go get some now! My mates even had Snooker Loopy played for me at my wedding reception 😂 amazing.
