Have you been given the advice to put your baby down drowsy but awake yet when you try it, it doesn’t ever work?

This is #1 mistake we see from families when trying to get babies to sleep and I’m going to share in this video why putting baby down drowsy but awake doesn’t work for many babies beyond the newborn stage.

Working directly with families, we have learnt countless times drowsy but awake is impossible for many parents who are trying to get baby to sleep on their own. Yet, after attempting the drowsy but awake method, parents come to us unsure why their baby is still waking up multiple times during the night and/or taking short naps. If drowsy but awake is not working for your family, this video is for you! We explain why this doesn’t work in many instances for babies after the newborn stage.

NB. If you’re wondering what is drowsy but awake (before you watch the video), it means putting your baby down for a nap or at night in a drowsy state before they are sleeping soundly.

Hi! I'm a mom who struggles with a fussy, and really needy babygirl!. So the drowsy but awake does work. At first I said, no because I would hear my baby make noises. But, thing is there is a thing called active sleeping. After a good feed baby will yawn which indicates sleepy / tired. Rock them till their eyes start to roll back or till baby starts to dose off. Then place them down. They may wake up but it's okay do the shh shh sound and maybe place your hand on their tummy. If they're still awake. DO NOT pick them up. If you have a dark room, just leave them on the crib. The baby will self soothe to sleep. YES, THEY WILL MAKE AWAKE SOUNDS BUT IT SHOULD GO AWAY since they will go to sleep. They may sounds awake too if they sleep and wake up. Only get your baby if the baby really starts to cry. Sometimes we confuse a baby actually being awake vs active sleep. I've watched videos and I've barely started to get a hang of it since yesterday!!! But it works trust me! Just gotta keep doing it till baby gets a hang of it. If she cries and cries non stop without breaks I would pick her up and try rocking her with some music in the background or shh shh or humming/ singing. And keep doing till baby get the hang of it. ❤

I have tried that for my youngest and it unfortunately did not work. Maybe due to separation anxiety but the only thing that worked was music. Added it to his nighttime routine after a nice cozy bath & warm jammies then he is out cold. Works every time.

Drowsy but awake has worked for us, but baby is 5 weeks right now. Does this philosophy apply to babies younger than 3 months?
