Ants communicate by pheromones. Unless human bodily odor counts, otherwise it's not a fair comparison.

I know the two are different speeds, but it’s interesting to see their thought process looking the same. They both tried to fit the T in the same ways in the order 🤔

This feels like it proves ants are more adept at group tasks with limited communication, whilst humans require more communication

I don’t think it’s necessarily a fair comparison since one species is obviously more used to nonverbal/less verbal group coordination than the other

Unless the human group have been given enough tasks to warmup prior

And it’s not like humans are that much less capable of group coordination either, as exemplified by our various architectural and industrial achievements throughout history

So while might understand the goal of this comparison, I don’t really think it’s exhaustive or comprehensive enough by any means beyond the specific circumstances of the test

Ants took 80 hours. Humans took 3min... Ants def showed us.

Only thing about this video is the speed of the video between how fast the ants are moving vs how fast the humans are which tells me if they were moving at the same playback speed that the humans have solved it faster but the playback being sped up for the ants to make them finish at the same time

Ants are moving at a much faster playback speed. Not really a fair comparison anyways

This means that ant is making some sort of mass communication....😊

Yes, it is not a fair comparison. However, there is always something we can learn from it. Don’t just criticize it. But to learn something out of it. The things popped up in my mind are

- when there are too many decision makers in a team, the result is almost always not as effective as a team with only one leader. When there is more than one decision maker in the team, there is always have more than one direction and way to achieve a certain goal.
- In the case of the ants, each team member has only one goal - to move the object in the same manner and in the same direction as one single unit. Compared to the human, each individual may have his/her ideas or ways of how to move the object, and highly possible in very different directions.
- How the communications could achieve the goal of moving the object in a unison form is beyond the scope of this comparison.

What motivates the ants to move the thing from one side to the other in the first place?

Forget efficiency, it still worked lol

God, all the people defending the humans here.

It's not that the ants "beat" the humans, it's that the ants were able to do it at all. How do they know to back up and turn it around? Amazing hive mind.

But the ants are talking to each other, they have antenna

Speed was not the point, it was the ability to solve a problem together.

So you mean to say ants are more Coordinated and intellectual than humans? Sure the feat they can achieve is impressive, but their Coordination is simple AI like process, they try and try untill something works, nothing like higher level intelligence suggested by this video.

I want to see the first iPad made by ants..

Humans couldn't communicate, but ants communicate through pheromones.

ants are literally communicating with each other, what are you talking about?

It’s because we rely on verbal communication to work as a collective group, while ants utilize specific electrical signals to collaborate. If you were to take away both of those functions, each side would fail.
