I love how Beryl gives an explanation for the people who are uninitiated to South Indian food but also adds interesting add-ons for South Indians as well! Reaches the full spectrum of her audience. I'm from Tamil Nadu and this is the first time I'm hearing of a Ramisseri Idli. I can't wait to try it!

I actually have tried that Kerala idli, but for the life of me i cant remember when. Living in south India, ive travelled all over Kerala with my family, so it's understandable i guess.
That being said, idli is my go to comfort dish, especially when I'm sick. It's hearty, light(when it's actually made well), and the spicy chutney or sambar really feel good when I have a runny nose

Idly pots are very recent, before these pots people used small basket moulds, fill clay half of the pots with water and hay then arrange sticks criss-cross, place the moulds on the sticks and then steam. 😍

Yeah they're one of my favorite comfort food 🤩 Similar to the Kerala idlies is the one you'll find in Karnataka called "Thatte idli" that's amazing too! Your pronunciation of the condiments is perfect 😊👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you for sharing this 😊🙏🏼

Idly is such a great thing to eat any time of day! Super healthy too, as a bonus. There‘s a lesser known side dish called ‘gothsu’, which is a savoury stew like sambhar but without the dal (lentils). The most popular gothsu is one made of eggplant and other vegetables.

Another fun way of eating this is marinating the idly in a special chilli powder mix called ‘molaga podi’ with sesame oil. Super simple but tastes fantastic.

In the state of Tamilnadu we call it as "Thattu idly". "Thattu" means a plate. Since the idly looks like a plate we call it that way.

As an Indian I have finally found a way to describe idli to my friends who aren’t . Thank you and also you should dip idli in sambar and eat it with vadai. It’s bomb😋

Absolutely love the way you present all cultural foods, with so much interest, respect & freshness! Your pronunciation’s on point, by the way!! There are so many Indian people who pronounce “SAAM-BAAR” as “SAAM-BUHR, ” and it used to drive me nuts 😂 It makes a difference to us as South Indians because our food has actually been underrepresented in the larger understanding of Indian cuisine throughout the world. Thanks to creators, ethnically Indian or not, we’re able to see the diversity of Indian cuisine at a much larger scale- thank you 💛

Hello from Malaysia. Our friday family breakfast favourite is idli with over easy eggs with sambar, curry and coconut chutney all soaked in. Such satisfaction.

Great video! Idli are so delicious. I have loved them ever since I tried them about 15 years ago, and in all that time I had no idea there was another type! Idli in sambar are a lot like dumplings, and I think most people on here can agree that dumplings are one of humanity’s best inventions.
