If I have a hearing loss, why doesn't turning up the volume always make things more clear?

Maybe this video will help my wife understand why I can hear her snoring but I can't comprehend what she's saying. She's snoring consonants!!!

My hearing was always very bad growing up. I couldn’t hear low frequencies very well. I was in and out of hospital having my ears looked at (I had frequent ear infections) and had those ‘grommets’ fitted twice. Over the years my hearing got worse. When I turned 17 I went to the hospital and they gave me a hearing aid.
I never used it. And I never went back to the doctor or hospital for 15 years. When I did finally go back again, my hearing hadn’t changed a single bit in those 15 years. I still struggle with certain low frequencies but as I’ve gotten older, my hearing hadn’t changed. Haven’t been back to hospital in years again either as I don’t feel the need. For someone my age now, I think I’ve got pretty normal hearing. 😂 although I’ll never know. 🤷‍♀️
