When Whis offered Trunks and Mai a place in another universe after the Goku Black saga, what might happen if Trunks had said no? Here's the full story.

One of the biggest bugbears of Dragon Ball Super for me was Dragon Ball Super Episode 67 where Future Trunks and Mai were left out to dry by Whis and Zeno...now what? They have a life in #DragonBall limbo to look forward to. Well today we change that! The hero of Dragon Ball Z deserves a chance to do some stuff in the present day and today we ask what might happen if they stayed with Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and the Dragon Team on the whole. #DragonBall #WhatIf #DragonBallWhatIf #DragonBallZ #DragonBallSuper

Hey guys, MasakoX here. Now as you may know, when I was covering the Dragon Ball Super anime back in the day, we encountered Episode 67...yes...THAT EPISODE. The Goku Black arc was one of the best arcs in the series (not that that was hard to do back then) and if only it had ended at Episode 66 with Trunks getting the win over Zamasu, a lot of the pratfalls and blunders the arc had would've been forgiven and I probably wouldn't have had a mild fit over Goku forgetting the talisman! But no. Episode 67 happened and what happened was that the focus of today, Trunks and Mai...lost everything. All that they had tried to protect and defend was taken away from them. Sure, Zamasu was gone and all but so was their future in their timeline...great. OK, let's get to the meat of the video - What If Trunks and Mai Stayed In The Past?

In this question, these two are offered a chance by Whis to return to the same time period they were in before everything went south with the arrival of Future Zamasu and Goku Black, where Whis could intervene and seal Future Zamasu; Trunks could help with all of this but there would be one problem with all of this: there would two of them...I always had an issue with this. Whis is just basically going "Yeah...there will be two of you. Have fun with that!" I just thought - after all that we have been through with this character. From the moment we saw him slice and dice Mecha Freeza, defend the world against Cell, save the future twice from the androids and THAT CELL, THEN STOP MAJIN BUU FROM APPEARING and he just gets bussed off to an effective Dragon Ball retirement home in another dimension? I'm sorry - that will not do!

This idea with Trunks and Mai staying in the present was what I wanted RIGHT AWAY after seeing the arc, that was such a stupid choice. They had Trunks built up, started character dynamics, etc. And it'd have been awesome if Future Trunks and Frieza had to work on the same team in the TOP

It would have been great that while Trunks and Gohan had a training montage, Videl and Mai had a small version of their own with Videl teaching Mai how to fly.

Definitely one of the more laid back what-ifs, I must say. Sure, Trunks gets to have his Xenoverse adventures (which, by the way, could be a fun backdoor plot for some crossovers with other What-ifs) and had to participate in the Tournament of Power and Broly fiasco, but it's pretty neat to see how his adventures in the main timeline didn't reach quite the extraordinary heights of Raditz or Nappa, with Trunks just trying to wind down and enjoy his new (well, not on fire) home.

I hope we get a Gt continuation of What if Trunks and Mai stayed in the past. I would like to see more of Pari and his interactions with Goten, Present Trunks, Pan and Bra!

Goku and Vegeta after seeing trunks and Gohan train together and surpass them by an insurmountable amount "are we a joke to you"

funnily enough, pari in portuguese means "i gave birth" so it sounds like mai named the kid after what she just did

I will never understand what possessed Toriyama to end the ark the way he did

The one issue I have with this what-if is that Universe 7 went from 6 people, down to 2 when it came to fighting Jiren and Toppo. It could have been an awesome wish fulfillment to have Goku and Gohan team up as the final two against Jiren.

After all, Gohan did get more training with Trunks than he ever did in the cannon series.

I still enjoy this WI, even if there’s a glaring oversight with how the Dragon Balls are used at the end.
