The White House has set a deadline of 30 days for all federal agencies to uninstall TikTok from government-issued devices. Canada and EU institutions have also banned the app from staff devices, citing risks to privacy and security. Why is the Chinese-owned app evoking such concern? DW spoke to tech expert and NYU Professor Scott Galloway to better understand the threat.

Fine give us something that can replace tiktok. Look at facebook and instagram is just become trash place with ads and same thing with youtube you have to watch 2 ads at the start of every video.

I liked the comment "Americans value money over security concerns" is so right.

To sum up, Tik-Tok does what all other social media does, but it's too efficient doing so and that's a problem. Now if you were to live outside US, every other ( as described in this clip) money driven and morally challenged mainly American platform starts to look exactly the same as Tik-Tok and has same effect as Tik-Tok, American values simply aren't universal as aren't Chinese for third countries. Banning Tik-Tok (or making the money/control run through third parties) should mean that all other platforms (Google, Meta, Apple etc) are going to see the same happening to them outside US soil.

In a nutshell, TikTok does everything Google/Twitter/FB does. And Chinese government may be using TikTok in some way that the US government is already doing with Google/Twitter/FB.

The logic of this guy's talk is exactly the same as that of the CCP "we ban anything we don't like"

facebook, instagram and youtube are not any better when it comes to privacy but they don't get banned. they simply lobbied to ban tiktok because it's a growing non western competition

China doesn’t let their own people watch TicTok. That tells me everything. I quit using it. Even though I only watched cat videos.

It’s not about security. It’s about who has control on media influence.

Why Microsoft is not mention here??? If you read the privacy assessment by the Netherlands government on it, Teams not only collects an obscene amount of data, but also send everything to the USA.

If you are afraid of TIKTOK, DON'T USE IT, simple as that.
Or don't post your private information online at all.
If some government doesn't like TIK TOK because of its Chinese background, BANN IT in your country, simple. As China has banned or censored: Google, YouTube and Meta.
TIK TOK is also censored in China. Do the same in western countries. Great honor from Hong Kong.

Maybe building a competitor bound to EU privacy law and without foreign investors might provide people a safer haven. But it requires investments.
