During World War I, German and Russian forces declared a temporary ceasefire and banded together to hunt wolves. The voracious animals were attracted to the prolific and gruesome scavenging available in the warzone, attacking soldiers and civilians alike. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. I believe this story 100%. Two years ago, I saw this documentary about a pack of 400 wolves in Siberia that actively hunted humans.

My grandmother came from Carpathian region, and she would tell horror stories about huge pack of wolves attacking the entire villages during 1916-1918 time period.

I have heard of this story before and I believe it. The village in Bukovina (a possession of the Austro-Hungarian Empire located in Ukraine and Romania, now defunct) where my ancestors lived, suffered several people killed and half eaten by wolf packs over the period of the 19th century. These are well documented. European wolves had a different mindset than New World wolves back then. Thanks, Forgotten History.

Paris experienced a wolf seige 1400s. Post WW2 Russia experienced loss of children guarding livestock because no one had firearms & all the military age men were dead or still serving Eastern Europe and Berlin.
It's important to know where danger could develop unrestrained in times of warfare.

While I can't speak to the validity of the story, I have heard it several times. I can however give you a true story that lends it some credence. A few years ago several experienced hunters, a LEO, a Marine veteran (myself) and an Army vet 50+ years hunting, we're cramped on a ridge. We had helped someone pack an elk out of a deep canyon off to one side of the ridge earlier that day. Wolves had made their presence know after the elk was killed. Toward dusk we set up to shoot the wolves as they came into the gut pile. We never once had a shot available to us because the wolves knew where we were and what we were up to. As evening turned into night the wolves came closer to our camp. We had a young buck deer enter our firelight a couple hours after dark because humans were less frightening than wolves to him. Just before daylight broke, the deer scurried away. The wolves trailed us in full daylight for a while, even after one was shot at. They numbered between six and ten. Six hundred would have done a job on everything in the area.

I had never heard of this I find it really fascinating. European wolves have always had a reputation for not being afraid of people as the American wolves. I find your channel fascinating I subscribe to you immediately and enjoy following your channel. Thank you so much

This was one of the coolest historical moments. Totally worthy of a blockbuster movie

I am from Lithuania. After second World War. My dad used to go to school only in groups with adults using main roads because of wolf's attacks.

The German soldier (Left) in the beginning of this video looks like Paul mcCarttney.

How sad that after working together for survival each side had to return to trying to kill each other.

If there can be a Christmas armistice, there was definitely a wolf hunting armistice.

This is a wild story. I live in south Georgia and love to hunt and fish, we have many wild animals and poisonous reptiles including many alligators. And to this I say, Man is not necessarily at the top of the food chain.

It was cool to see the first truce and enemies playing soccer together as friends, not foes. Those wolves had to be rough. They just wont give up until they get what they want. And more times than not they will out last and number you. Crazy they could work together to help with the wolves, but had to fight each other for nothing. We really should always work together, learn together, and live together. As ONE. Was interesting and informative to watch. Great video

I can’t believe I found this channel. Holy cows I love it. I am a History junkie. Sucking up everything military and so much more. My Grandfather served in WW1 and my father served in WW2. I served in the WOT after 9/11. I joined the Army Signal Corps at the age of 34. And that’s WHY I love History about the World Wars. Thank you sir for making my day

Part of me likes to reimagine this story as a battle against werewolves.
