Sumeria was a collection of a number of city states (Eridu, Nippur, Ur, etc.) which shared an overarching common culture but were often at odds with each other with their own kings, and vied for power. With Akkad to their north becoming more powerful and Sumeria growing more divided, Sumeria as an entity eventually ceized to exist with cities and territories changing hands again and again over extended periods of time. However this was a fairly gradual process. Babylon eventually rose to prominence and more or less became the inheritor of Sumeria. The details are too complex for a Youtube post, but you can look it up. In all cases, this concerns people of Mesopotamian and Levantine descent, who closely resemble the current middle-Eastern peoples of today ethnically. That means their skin tone was neither as white as Europeans nor as black as sub-Saharan Africans. That is notwithstanding large amounts of trade from all over the world (and with it traders from all ethnicities) flowing through their lands. Sumerian, Babylonian and Akkadian technological, sociological and cultural achievements were hardly matched at the time and that makes them a fascinating civilization to study. As humans we all inherited that history and because they took records and wrote stories even back then in their native cuneiform, we can read and learn about them by their own accounts even today. This in large part because vast amounts of Sumerian tablets were translated into Akkadian, which was the main language in Akkad, Assyria and Babylonia. It being part of the Semitic language family, researchers were able to translate cuneiform with a very high degree of accuracy. The whole point being; you can read about them from their own writing. They were certainly not sub-Saharan Africans. That's just a modern American trope. But hey, maybe suggest it to Netflix, they might be interested in that concept. Or the BBC, who also depict Romans as black.
