I am not sure why 2nd MAA group went down as well. And you can see some MAA still try to run downwards even if they are close to the gate. There seems to be enough room for the 2nd MAA group to reach and torch the gate along with the 1st group, so doesn't look like the 2nd group can't reach the gate from this side.
