I hope everybody coming here to grieve makes it through alright. I made this video in middle school, and while I obviously have nothing to do with the song, it's always meant something to me that people have come here to express their grief.
Losing a pet is incredibly difficult and a lot of people might not understand that. It helped me a lot to remember that we were both lucky-- I knew I'd loved him and he got to spend his entire life with me, well taken care of and happy. Years later I still tear up thinking about it, but I also have dreams where he visits me that boost my entire day. The best, and maybe only thing you can do is give yourself time. There's nothing wrong with mourning.

My grandparents got a puppy a year before I was born. They named her Brandy, and she was a Yellow Labrador Retriever. I grew up with this dog. I spent several long and happy years visiting my grandparents, and to a further extent, her. As time went by, I grew bigger and stronger, and she became smaller and more frail. She moved around less, and eventually her body gave up. She died in her sleep after 14 years. Around the same time, I listened to this song. The lyrics were so accurate to what my family had to deal with at the time. I bawled my eyes out for a good majority of that week. 2 years later, I think about this dog, and this song again. Needless to say, it's 5 am and I'm crying like a baby again.

I miss that dog so much.

This song makes me think of my little brother that passed two days ago. Me and my family were in the hospice until his last breath holding him and just being there with him. I know this is about the loss of a pet....but it just make me think of him. I love you Chance

Every time I hear this song it makes me want to cry, in a good way. It reminds me of all the wonderful memories with the people who I have lost. I have gone my whole life without a grandfather figure. That was, until I met my great uncle. He recently died, and died to cancer, which was the same exact way every single one of my grandfathers has died. It also reminds me of the nice memories with my best friend and dog before she died. This song reminds me of them all, these were just the past two months of loss, and it makes me glad I am still here. I hope on not leaving anyone who loves me behind soon. It makes me grateful and reminds me of loss, and the good memories before loss.

Somehow we all feel ashamed of the fact that we love our pets. That we love period, whether it is a pet, parent, partner or a child. This song is a celebration of love something that we all long for and its beautiful. Its better than the emptiness of no one and nothing and for those who grieve I hope the day comes that that you smile as you recall a special moment and that the people/pets that you love will always be with you.

I totally respect this guy. This song is never gonna get the lads thumping and the ladies moist and certainly wont be a club hit in ibiza, lol. But it has heart and soul and will resonate within anyone who has ever lost anyone they care about. I have a chihuahua who's 15 yrs old, and I've had him since I was four. But now he's very sick (my guess is that it's cancer but we haven't gone to the vet yet to get a diagnosis). Listening to this song makes me think of the harsh reality that in the near future, he will pass on. He's always there to comfort me whenever I get sick, and now it looks like the tables have turned, only this time for something far worse than your average flu. He's not passed yet, and he still has his good days, but this song still makes me cry as I dread what he will face in the near future.
I know that this is a reality that all pet owners will face, that their pets won't be with them forever. The best that we can do is make sure that their short time on earth is filled with love. joy, and comfort.

didn't know that this is about losing a pet because i didn't listen to the lyrics but now i'm even more in love with this song and gotye because he made such a beautiful song about pets and pets are something really really important! they are good for our soules because they love us unconditionally and that makes us happy:) so thanks gotye for giving us a reminder of that!

Apparently Gotye wrote this when his friend/neighbour had to put their dog down. Then again I think it has multiple meanings about life. I read another persons opinion on it who's username is Chadwich on here they wrote ''It's about the loss of innocence and of childhood imagination. A story about growing older and the landscape of your life changing, even before you realize it.'' Perhaps the buffalo represent imaginary friends of a childhood.

I think the songs title is inspired by a friend of Gotye's whose dog died. The dog was called Bronte. Amazing song :)

Was listening this with my child while cuddling our dog who has terminal cancer. He is still with us but for not very long (tho we pray for more and more time together). Still, the tears started streaming on both of our faces while we pet him cause we know what is coming our way.😢
