Previously we've looked at Medieval Houses and discussed what these were like. This week we look at what life was like inside of a Medieval Town! Was it really as grimy and as dirty as first though, with rats scurrying around everywhere? Well not entirely, as towns during this period were actually rather sophisticated trading networks.

In this video, we look at markets and why they were integral to a town, we also look at the living standards inside a Medieval town, and much more! Expect to learn about how the Black Death impacted towns, the types of people who worked in them such as skilled craftsment, blacksmiths and so on. We even look at Medieval guilds which were established to uphold high standards within a town. So join us today as we look at, 'What was life like inside a Medieval town?'

How did towns and cities take off during the Medieval Period if the majority of people were members of an impoverished peasantry with limited purchasing power? Also, how did the peasantry have a sufficiently large market for their produce if there was relatively much smaller population of townspeople???

Very interesting topic, I like learning about what life was like for the average peasant and how that sort of system worked. So my basic understanding is: 1. The king would grant land under the feudal system. 2. The lord would create a town with said land, develop it, and rent out buildings and such. 3. People would move in and form merchant markets. 4. The town would grow and form into a more complex city as time went on. Is that somewhat on the right track?
