I think EVERYBOOK has some place in society. The more information which you can use to make critical decisions, the better. Any form of mass banning/censorship is a threat to the truth.

Slavery may be a thing of the past but racism is still among us today. I am African American. I was, until recently, a Substitute Teacher in Los Angeles where I subbed in areas where there are less than a handful of African American residents in those areas. On several occasions I was called the "N Word" both in English and Spanish by several of the students. Apparently they learned hatred of African Americans at home. This alone is reason why books on Race Relations/Racism/Black History should not be banned from schools.

Captian Underpants graphic novel was banned and out of print! I don't know if anyone here read it or their kids did, it was a bestseller. Banned because the super hero travels around in his cape and underpants, violence-( putting bubble bath in the marching bands instruments) and mean language calling the principal " Mean Old Mr. Krump" and using Kung-Fu to beat up robots. I couldn't believe it, I still have it in my classroom and it gets 10 yr old boys reading. lmao. It's nice to know crazies on the left and right enjoy banning books. You don't need to ban it just don't read it.
