Californian Reacts | UK's New Submarine that is Totally Different than any Other Subs on Earth

The Dreadnought class of ballistic submarines for the Royal Navy is now being built. Successor was the name for the programme of delivering these submarines for the Royal Navy until the first boat was named in October 2016.

This is the enduring commitment of the Navy's dedication to Continuous At Sea Deterrence (CASD) since April 1969.

Begun in 1969 with the four Resolution-class submarines, this core tasking in support of UK defence has been sustained non-stop by the Royal Navy. With their advent in 1992 the role was handed over to the four Vanguard boats, which are due to stay in service until the 2030s.

The Successor programme has begun the build of the hulls which will become the Dreadnought class of nuclear submarines and will take over the mantle of CASD in the future.

On October 21 2016, the name of the first Successor boat was announced as HMS Dreadnought.

Named after the original H.M.S. Dreadnought (1906) which when launched was so advanced that every other ship was deemed obsolete.

I used to work for Rolls-Royce Industrial and Marine Division. We built the Marine Gas Turbines for the surface fleet. They had been doing this since the early 60s. The US started using their own version after being on manoeuvres with the Royal Navy and witnessing the rapid speed and manoeuvrability of the British ships. The MT 30 which uses a marine version of the Rolls-Royce Trent engine is the most powerful marine gas turbine available, both the RN and the USN use them.
Rolls-Royce are developing a small modular nuclear reactor that will be factory built and shipped to site, rather than spend years building Nuclear Power Stations in their present form. Several smaller reactors will be shipped to site already built and tested thereby saving time and costs, this will make decommissioning easier as well.

Rolls Royce also create nuclear reactors. They've been chosen as the supplier for the Aukus pact (UK, US&Australia).
Their small modular reactors program looks promising in the energy game.

Have a look at the Astute class attack subs, already in service, and regarded as the pinnacle of attack subs.

A slight mistake on the uploaders video, On the list of future names for the upcoming Subs, HMS King George VI was listed but the uploader said HMS King George IV.

I love your enthusiasm for British technology, we still have unbelievable technology and we share it with our allies. We are nothing like the power house we used to be but for a small group of islands we still pack a punch. Love our special relationship with our American cousins.

The UK needs to get its armed forces back to a level it used to be in terms of personnel and equipment numbers/quantity.

So, a Russian friend of mine told me that Russia has enough warheads to destroy the world 7 times over, far exceeding what the UK can do.. I reminded him that our minuscule fleet of state of the art ballistic missile submarines can only destroy the planet once.. I let him think about that for a minute..

I wish our government was as enthusiastic about British engineering and manufacturing as you are.

Lol, they read VI as 4th (which is IV). I do love the name Warspite. My other fave is Thunderchild - bet some of you know how that name got well known.

In 1987, I worked for a major UK military and space systems contractor on Project Freedom, which eventually evolved into the current International Space Station. In 1989, they moved me on to a top secret "stealth submarine" project, which (perhaps surprisingly) built on much on the technology we had been developing for the space station. Perhaps most surprisingly, the UK had only just begun construction of the (at the time) brand new Vanguard class of submarine, yet here we were, already working on the designs for its replacement. In other words, much of the technology used in the brand new Dreadnought class seems very advanced to most people, but actually dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. I cannot even imagine what technology is in development now for the future classes of submarines that will be deployed in 30 or 40 years time.

I've heard one of the 4 will be called "HMS Warspite". Probably the best name ever for a military vehicle, and as for the history of the name I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone interested in the genre.

Here’s some information for you, the British Royal Navy fully intend to have the most powerful navy in Europe to protect its self and it’s allies.

The original video creator needs to learn their roman numerals, but we all know them so we're fine 🤣

Count me out for ever being in a submarine! Would anyone here be open to being deployed for months on end in a submarine? During WWII, my grandfather was in the navy mainly in the pacific theater, and not in a submarine. The closest roots I have to this! 🚢
