As someone who has been into anime for well over two decades, I am sick of these tourists.
I'm all for new fans joining the community but I didn't spend my time in HS and my young adult life being ridiculed so that those same people can now force themselves into my interest and try to ruin it.

Back then anime fans see tropes like fanservice and the 1000 year old vampire and laugh at the absurdity of them.But because people take them too seriously, they start complaining that its sexist or pedo and anyone who tries to defend it is weird.

I always relate gatekeeping hobbies to restaurants. When a restaurant gets a few dozen regular customers a week, the experience and food is tailored more specifically to the individuals ordering. If that restaurant becomes a well-known spot and now they have hundreds of people coming in every week or every day, they have to mass produce the food and tailor it to a more general audience. So now, instead of a few dozen people thinking the food is amazing, you have a few hundred people who think the food is just alright or "not that special." Once the appeal of uniqueness is gone, you're just like everything else and you can get "just like everything else" anywhere.

I remember growing up and being taught by these people that gatekeeping is bad. Only for these same people to take over my hobbies, suddenly gatekeep me from them, and destroy them.
