This is a demonstration of how you can exceed the speed of sound by cracking a whip.

This demonstration was created at Utah State University by Professor Boyd F. Edwards, assisted by James Coburn (demonstration specialist), David Evans (videography), and Rebecca Whitney (closed captions), with support from Jan Sojka, Physics Department Head, and Robert Wagner, Executive Vice Provost and Dean of Academic and Instructional Services.

i’m guessing since you made a video on the subject, you’ll be interested to know, the crack of the whip doesn’t happen at the tip. it’s been proven that the whip in fact breaks the sound barrier well before the momentum reaches the tip, with Shlieren photography, it’s very fascinating

That is hell of the most dangerous thing one should never do with a whip, there is a proper way of cracking a whip, which isnt like that

It's not the tip that reaches the speed of sound but the loop. The tip reaches twice the speed of sound.

There are 4 natural sonic booms, thunder from a lightning strike, a volcanic eruption, a whip crack and a speeding meteor. When lightning passes through the air it heats it up so fast you get that thunder crack. Man made sonic booms include bombs, bullets helicopter blades and jet planes!!!!
