WE VENTED THE BATHROOMS // TLF 17

In this video, Chris shows how he vented the bathroom exhaust fans through the soffit in this fixer upper. This was noted as a deficiency by the home inspector and needed to be corrected. This job was relatively easy because the master bathroom, being remodeled, is on an exterior wall and the ceiling was open.

This video gave me the confidence to install a soffit vent for a particular Handyman project -thanks you again!

Just what I needed. It’ll be a bit of a challenge, because of Covid, to get everything, but your video answered all the questions in my mind! Thanks

If you install the vent in the soffit, code requires the vent to be a certain distance away from any vented soffit. I notice your soffit is vented just a foot or two away from these bath vents which means you moist air from the bath fan will end up going right back into the attic causing mold problems. You should replace the soffit material with unvented soffit for a distance usually 8 foot away from your bath vent.

Question. Won’t the exhausted bathroom air just get drawn right back into the attic via the soffit vents/perforations?

what about the damper/flapper to stop backdraft (outside air from coming in?)?

It’s better to use an insulated pipe whenever running warm vent from inside a living space into a cold attic because condensation will occur and drip on ceiling.

Great job man. Installing one tomorrow and this put my mind at ease

It is against code to vent next to a window. I believe it needs to be at least 3 feet away. It is also against code to vent right next to the intake vents in a soffit.

You could close the soffits about 2 feet around the vent? 25% reentering will not make mold?

Nice job on this video. Really like the way you keep the story of the living flip running while doing a video that also works as a standalone how-to demonstration.

Very informative, will have to look into the soffit vent

There is also a distance away from any windows that open near a vent so the farts won't circulate back into the house.

I see you wired it before? So mine is retrofit, got hole cut out in ceiling, how would you go about it? Got wire ran from main, and got switch wire ran...

looks like you installed right next to a soffit vent which will suck the wet air back into the roof.

We get a lot of wind noise from outside into our bathroom fans. How could one stop that?
