yes is the answer she is partly wrong, i am fertility doc in USA. some pregnancies will abort spontaneously in 7 days or less due to defects in embryogenesis and early trophoblast formation, these are called chemical pregnancies. folic acid to help lower these. so recent studies showed some benefit of folic acid increasing chances of viable pregnancy and aid with embryo formation. later in pregnancy it prevents neural tube defects.
