A preliminary study about autism is raising concerns in the medical community. Researchers found new mothers with high levels of folic acid and vitamin B12 were more likely to have kids diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Doctors and health officials stress that women should keep taking prenatal supplements proven to prevent other serious birth defects. Dr. Tara Narula joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss the study.

Ummm but folic acid is not the same as folate... the women had high levels of a SYNTHETIC vitamin... not folate.... soooo idk how they could even say that... most ppl cannot turn folic acid into folate

This is only important to basically not give any of this grounds for misleading women on their most important time. Its simply fear mongering.

Um, no. Folate. Not folic acid. Especially if you have the MTHFR mutation, which many women do!

Why are they still adding folic acid into our foods? Why?

Folate is from healthy foods!

I have a question. We know that Vitamin B is a water-soluble vitamin which if taken in excess excretes through urine ! Vit A, D, E & K are toxic if in excess. Then how are we risking hyper-folic acid and b12 here? Just worried and concerned.
