Welcome back!! Today's video was highly requested and will discuss exactly what I did to get into medical school from nursing school! Hope you guys enjoy and don't forget to leave me questions in the comment section, like this video and subscribe xo ❤️

Medical school prerequisites:
1 year (with lab) of:
Biology
General Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Physics

1 semester (no lab required) of:
Biochemistry
Math
English
Psychology
Genetics (only for some medical schools)

Don't forget Math (stats), English, and Psychology are included with the nursing curriculum and those are the only classes that overlap. The rest you can take during nursing school if you have time/extra credits or during the summer!! Be sure to check the medical schools you are interested in to make sure you have the required prerequisites done.

Can I just tell you that this video is such a breath of fresh air to me. Currently in nursing school & I am feeling so unfulfilled and like I should’ve have gone the route towards med school instead. I was telling one of my classmates today how I was feeling and that my thought is to push through since I’m doing my associates in nursing rn & then take everything I need to apply to med school & work as a nurse in the mean time. They looked at me like I had four heads and asked if that was even a thing. This was exactly what I needed today and has given me so much peace

De Ja Vu! I literally have this exact plan laid out as well.
My story: Got out of the Marines and after battling with which direction I wanted to head in for some time, I finally decided to pursue medical school. There are SO many people out there tell you majoring in bio or chem or something along those lines is a MUST, anything else would be a waste of time. There is truth to it, but it isn’t the whole truth. My truth is I want get my foot in the door (healthcare wise), immediately. What is a bio degree going to do for me if med school doesn’t work out year 1, 2, or 3? It doesn’t interest me what so ever, I’d much rather be in a position like yourself, where you recognize the value of nursing and the person that it takes to be one. After all, nursing isn’t just a degree, it’s a real skill, a trade. You can’t beat that.
In summary, do what interests you! I’ll be 31 by the time I finish nursing, in my late 30s by the time I finish med school. That’s OK! As long as you are pursuing what you want to do and are doing so for the right reasons. Work hard train hard and get after it! God bless! Thank you for this inspiring video!

So if I'm taking a BSN, do the med school prerequisites overlap with the major, or do I have to take additional years for them?

Hey girl. While in nursing school, are the clinical hours considered as clinical experience?

I am so happy I found this video. My advisor at community college did not understand a word I was saying while I tried explaining to her that I’m looking to get my associates in nursing, get a job as a nurse and then complete my bachelors with the additional pre-Reqs and apply to medical school. She was so confused lol

This gives me so much motivation and reassurance. I’m strongly considering medical school but I still want to be a nurse so that I have some kind of security and I love helping people. When sharing my plan which is similar to yours and many others, people would look confused which made me doubt myself. I’m so excited.

Hello! Thank u so much for sharing your journey!! I’m a 19-year old sophomore in college majoring in pre-nursing but also wanna be a doctor. This sounds crazy b/c even getting into nursing program in my school is super competitive 😂 I was wondering how you were able to manage studying for MCAT while working as RN. Also did u do any extracurriculars in undergrad?

I am SO HAPPY to find you!! I’m currently an RN (5 years) and have been working toward medical school! Most people think I’m absolutely insane, haha. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us! It’s encouraging to hear your story.

You’re so smart! Becoming a nurse before med school is like a win win since you’ll cover so many pre reqs but also have a baseline great paying job coming out of school.

So you were able to work and save money while trying to get into med school. I wish I was as smart at your age.

Hey there, I am a new nurse with a BSN and still have the desire to maybe give med school a shot. I am a little older and did pre-med and pre-nursing prerequisites back in 2014. I got derailed dating a girl and never took the MCAT. I decided to go to an accelerated BSN program and passed the NCLEX. I am a new nurse grad at Barrow Neurological in the ICU. However, I still have the desire to attend medical school. I took my prerequisites at a community college and have a 4.0 in them. O-Chen 1/2, Bio 1/2, Gen Chem 1/2, and Calc1 and physics 1. I do have stats from my psych degree from University of Iowa. I am in my 40s, but I know I am intelligent enough to do it. I just don’t know how I would take the MCAT considering it’s been so long since I’ve had those classes. Any advice?

You're such an inspiration for keep trying hard. This is a registered psychiatric nurse trying to get into MD in Australia. Will have to work hard a lot to get there!
