I just bought the 2013 TC and its an awesome car. It was between the TC and a Civic Si. After driving both extensively, the TC is a much better car. The Si is not worth an additional 6 grand and the VTEC engine is extremely overhyped. I also found the Si body style to be quite feminine whereas the TC's body is a work of art. I also hated all the "Power" gizmos all around the dash on the Si, they seem very gimmicky and would only be cool to 16 year olds.

The tC's only true competitor is the Civic Si, because of its engine/transmission and size. However the Honda is about $4000 more, and it requires premium fuel. Plus the Honda has the quirky dashboard layout that most people hate. Toyota reliability is unsurpassed by any auto manufacturer.

I have a 2011 tC, I really like the car, plenty of back seat room, YES really I am 6'.  I use it to do everything from hauling my custom trailer for skiing and mtb adventures, kids to soccer, or getting groceries.  My SUVtC.  I maxed out at 36mpg driving like an old lady.  Current is 30.5 after 2 years(I live in Maine too, the cold kills mpg's)  There is nothing else in its class for even close to the money, this is no rocket ship more and economy car with a bit of style, if you think of it this way you will love it.  Compare it to a BMW you will be sadly disappointed, it is what it is.  Everything else under 20K is a POS.  Toyota reliability, cool style,  all the basics you need without the fluff seats 5 gets 30+ MPG for under 20K can't beat it. The FRS is way cooler but the back seat is useless, it is a very small car.

Great review and all, but this car just doesn't do it for me. I personally would rather have a loaded Fiat 500 Sport before even looking at this car. I know they aren't even in the same class, but the Fiat will get you more attention on the road as well as offering many more upscale features like automatic climate control.
