This album was my gateway drug to the Great American Songbook and the music of Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, etc. Thank you, Ms. Rondstadt.

I absolutely love every song on her cd with Nelson Riddle! She will always be my favorite. Love you, Linda.

This was representative of one of the phases of her career. She had initially approached Nelson Riddle (a legendary composer in his day-the 40's through the 60's) to arrange one song on a jazz standards album she was contemplating but he said he wasn't interested unless it was to be for a whole album. She was thrilled and said that was more than she had hoped for. The initial collaboration-titled "What's New" was so successful both commercially and artistically they completed two others, all with music from what is considered The Great American Songbook. Every song on all three are beautiful but there is a particularly haunting version of "I'm a Fool to Want You" which was co-written by Frank Sinatra.

She did follow this period of musical exploration with a couple of albums culled from Mexican culture (her father's heritage was Hispanic, her mother's German). There is much greatness contain in them as well.

I strongly suggest that you react to another song off of this album, “Someone To Watch Over Me”. The richness of her voice really shines. She does the verse, which is the beginning, which sets up the song. In fact, if I remember correctly, she always included the verse when she did these old standards. And, the song itself is just wonderful. She did 3 albums, maybe 4, with Nelson Riddle.

As JD Souther says "She has the largest musical vocabulary of anyone."

Linda did a duet with Sinatra. It's on her Duets album

Linda will always be a favorite of mine, no matter what genre she is singing. I love this album, and she will always be a dewy-eyed young woman with a voice of crystal wrapped in velvet to me.

I remember going to this show when Linda brought her show to San Antonio. We took my parents, and they were so happy to hear Linda's beautiful, amazing voice. it was a night i will always remember because it brought our family so much joy.

Yes! Yes! Yes! For 2 years I've been trying to get someone, anyone, to react to Linda Rhonstad with Nelson Riddle. You're the first! Thank you so much!!! I hope others reactors will follow suit!

Without a doubt, Linda Ronstadt was the most versatile singer to ever open her mouth. She sang in so many very different styles and excelled in every one of them. It's a true shame that illness has silenced this incredible talent and amazing voice!

Great reaction. I’ve enjoyed Linda Ronstadt since her “Stone Poneys” days. I wish her well.

When I heard she was ill and could no longer sing, I wept ... for quite a while. She has been so impactful on my love of music.

Linda...just warms me every time I hear her sing with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. She was made to be from that era...singing with the Andrew Sisters and Peggy Lee. This genre' is my favorite of all the great music she sings.

She did 3 albums of standards - all of them are top notch recordings.

You should try her Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance. This big band is my favorite genre.

So beautiful, so gifted. Incredible album arranged by Sinatra's conductor, Nelson Riddle. Only the best for our Linda!

Another song of Linda Ronstadt I think you should really check out is an Irving Berlin song called “What’ll I Do” also with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. It’s a heartbreaking song.

I LOVED watching your reaction to the big band "erupting". I felt it too.

Had this album back in the day, played the heck out of it. Remember Harri when I said Linda could sing any genre of music and she did, here is additional proof. Breathtaking

Great choice Debbie. Linda is one of my mom's favorite singers so I grew up listening to her songs being played throughout the house. This song reminds me of when I was about 9 years old and my parents had been arguing so that night I surprised them with a romantic dinner. I lit candles and put this album on. I guess they made up because they just celebrated their 48 year marriage anniversary. 😄❤ Sing it Linda!!!

Actually, she did do one duet with Frank Sinatra called “Moonlight in Vermont”. She heard these songs growing up because her grandparents loved this style. When she got restless in the 1980’s and wanted to try something different, her record executives didn’t want to deviate from the pop/rock that was making millions for them and they said she would ruin her career. She did it anyway and it was a huge success. She went on to make three albums of this material! So much for the corporate geniuses 😂😂 Thanks Harri🌺✌️
