In this video, you will learn how to Mount an ISO file or CD image file as a Virtual Drive.

An ISO or IMG file, also called a disc image is simply a copy of an entire CD/DVD. A lot of software is distributed as ISO files. When you mount an ISO file it will be added as a CD/DVD drive in your PC. You can burn an ISO file directly to a CD/DVD, but mounting is obviously much faster and recommended.

If you have the Windows 10 operating system, you can natively mount the ISO without a third-party software by simply double clicking or by right clicking and selecting Open. Choose Windows Explorer if presented with multiple options and as you can see the ISO has now been mounted as a Virtual drive.

Alternatively, if you have an older version of Windows, download a Free third party utility called WinCDEmu. Go to Google and search for WinCDEmu (I have also left a link). Once you have downloaded and installed WinCDEmu, right click the ISO or IMG file and choose the "Select drive letter & mount" option. You can choose the drive letter or leave it as it is. Select "Keep drive after restart" if you want the ISO file to remain mounted as a drive even after restart. This is especially useful during installation where the installer needs access to the virtual drive after restart. I would recommend that you keep this option checked.

Unmounting the disc image is simple. Right click the mounted drive, and select the "Eject" and just like that you have unmounted the ISO image.
