Wow TLC, lots of wisdom imparted here! "Obedience can feel a lot like striving..." I do a lot of striving with A LOT more failure. It's exhausting and disheartening leaving me disappointed in myself and feeling like a failure. It's a vicious cycle. "He wants to save me from the tyranny of self." Wow, just wow!

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Don't associate with fools. Stay away from evil. As I'm sure many have this, my favorite verses are Proverbs 3: 5-6. I've walked in my own understanding plenty of times, and it would have been better if I had stopped to pray about the matter. I'm just so thankful that God is patient and kind. He offers abundant grace and mercy even when I have acted foolishly.

The Lord has certainly saved me from the tyranny of myself. Amen!

Obedience shouldn't be to earn something, but be in response to who God is and what He's done.

God’s wisdom creates the Garden of Eden in our lives: “Wisdom is a Tree of Life to those who embrace her” (Prov 3:18). Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden and the Tree of Life, but when Solomon asked for wisdom, God shows him and us the way He built wisdom into the Garden of our lives, if we will only listen and walk with Him. We need to accept His correction (Prov 3:12), give generously (Prov 3:9-10), and “trust in the Lord with all our heart” (Prov 3:5). God has built a world that hums with the music of wisdom, and we must “tune our ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding” (Prov 2:2). Walking near to God, tuning our ears to His ways, will let us “live in peace, untroubled by harm” (Prov 1:33), not because He will keep harm from us, but because His nearness is comforting when harm comes.

Proverbs 3:5-6 is on my necklace I wear everyday. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. That’s my God shot….lean on His understanding, not our own because we don’t know the whole picture, just the small piece of the big picture/puzzle.

What Tara said about looking for Jesus through out the Old Testament was so timely. As I was looking for information on the book of Proverbs this morning, I saw this verse that speaks of Christ "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. " Col. 2:3. I'm so thankful to know Him. Praise the Lord! He is truly where the joy is!

My God shot was found in Proverbs 3:12 - “For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.” I find comfort in the depth of His love for me as I love my children and wanted to bring them up in the admonition of the Lord, and that involved correcting them as needed. God does the same with me as He is making me more like His desired child ready for my home going.

We did today's study in the shade of beautiful trees overlooking rolling hills of farms in the Amish community of NE Ohio. God's creation is beautiful! ❤

God has woven wisdom into the fabric of life, and He wants me to wrap myself in that fabric, and find it out and understand His ways.

I had to read these proverbs them twice. I find them such good guidance. I pray often for discernment. I love this quote!

I love what you said about the tyranny of self, how we need to see the Proverbs as life principles not promises, and that we need to be connected to God and obey Him because we love Him, and not because we are doing pre-programmed actions.
