How a mysterious Kazakh rebel, with ties to KGB and CIA, herded India and China to war

In 1933, as profoundly brutal violence tore Xinjiang apart, a Kazakh rebel fought to set up an independent nation. He would fail, but his Kazakh insurgents were given safe haven in Kashmir, and their leaders evacuated via Darjeeling and Kolkata to Taiwan—the first step in the march to the 1962 war.

1. Thanks Pravin!!!! Very painstaking compiled details!!. One can always trust him for his deep research and analysis!! Of course, the story of Kazak Scout from China is unknown to us Indians and probably we heard it for the first time in the public discourse, thanks to Gen Panag's article. But Pravin took it to the next level. 2. All such stories show us very clearly that Nehru had no sense of what is and should be India's boundary in relation to China, let alone about Pakistan and others. Even accounting for that, India need not have suffered a total defeat in 1962, as India could have defended whatever it wanted to defend as its boundary. 3. If Tibet, Xinxiang and inner Mongolia had remained independent, India China story would have been entirely different. Of course, we could not have done much and Chinese has natural geographical advantage there.

It's just amazing how the 1962 war affected Indian psyche! Non-stop 'analysis' for decades.

It would have been really helpful if there were some maps and pictures along with your narration.

मैंने पढ़ा था कि साल १९३३ में ही चीन ने काश्मीर में हिस्सा हथिया लिया था और उस समय शायद काश्मीर में अंग्रेजी हुकूमत ने दखल नहीं दे रहा था

Nato wants to use Turkey's ethnic and religious identity to get on China's western, Russia's southern, and Iran's northern flank. Is this good for India in the long term?

I don’t believe Chinese hui Muslims took part in east turkistan. Infact dismantling of east turkistan by Chinese military was led by many hui generals, such as General Ma Zhongying who is an ethnic hui Muslim and played a big role in Chinese politics since the time of Qing dynasty. Whereas Kazakhs and uyigurs are turkic, huis are a branch of Han Chinese. So ethnic relationships play a big role.

Remember this happened at the time of cliques after the collapse of Qing. The cliques changed sides all through this civil war period.
