The reason why there’s so much Korean spoken in Manchuria is mostly because when imperial japan first colonized Korea a lot of Koreans fled to Manchuria and a lot of the Korean resistance became based out of Manchuria until the Japanese occupied it too

mandarin varies between diffirent province, and many people are relunctant to speak standard mandarin(Peking dialect I guess)and stick to our regional dialect, except that we need to talk with people from other province

Even within that Mandarin speaking territory, some regional dialects can be thick enough to miscommunicate. 😅

in the chinese deep south as we call it, there's a lot of mountains formed by the yangtze plate and that makes communication difficult, resulting in the same central plains language having offshoots

The Chinese word for China translates as "Middle Kingdom". Those "civil wars" were international wars, of conquest building that Middle Kingdom up to encompass the whole region. That is my understanding.

Im from Hong Kong and our family could pretty much go through about 5 languages on a daily basis (I only know 3 which is the average in our family). My paternal grandparents for example sometimes speak in Teochew, their home language, whilst my maternal grandmother's side spean Hakka. Our dominant one is Cantonese but we can use Mandarin and English no prob as well. It would prob seem overwhelming for others during our family dinners.😂
