How to cut doors of plastic model kits

Brief video on how I cut the doors of my models. This method does not require using any sharp tool, also, the thinner the thread is, the thinner the cut will be, therefore you will have more precision when cutting.

I’ve been building models for a very long time and clearly this is something new to me. I am going to give it a go, but a scriber is a much better way to a cleaner cut and less prep work

Very interesting. I've not come across this before. Will it work on plastic railway models - i.e. coach doors - I wonder. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the idea.

I can see where this is better than the back of a hobby blade, but is this better than a saw or scribing blade?

Alternatively, you could just drill a hole in each corner and use a low speed mini - drill to cut the hole. The one I have runs at much lower speeds than most Dremels or similar so will do the job nicely :)

Would this technique work for cuting a model in half? I am turning an A320 into an A319.

Very cool idea! I would have used a lrger drill & knife to open the door which would probably have taken longer. The door would still be plasticard though 😉

If you run into this often enough, just spend a few bucks on a jeweler's saw.
