I love listening to Josh. He never disappoints and has so much knowledge which he happily shares.

The Black Inc 45 is narrow at 27mm external width. Even a 25mm GP5000 will measure wider than that on the 21mm internal width, but it’s a better option than the 28mm tire on that wheel. Black Inc even says that on their website.

Interesting chat. Thanks for making this.

Recently decked my race bike out with Conti Str's after the tl's were needed on the training bike. Wasn't expecting much, thinking its mostly marketing so I won't be able to feel it. But man those tyres are a step up, and noticeably faster, and tl's aren't slow! Really surprised.

Brilliant thank you what a knowledgible gent.

I also read that the present tire widths from Conti (I just got some brown side 5000 28s) are set to wider modern rims. My rims are more OG and my new 5000 28 is 26mm just like my old 4000 25mm. So a narrower rim will give you a narrower tire. That said, my 28s on OG rims is still supple AF

The editing on this is really annoying. It’s so chopped up, it feels like his speech has been manipulated.

I wasted 7 minutes waiting for something about Jumbo's 1x setup. Did I miss it?

I test rode a SL8 at the shop the other day, the rim seems so much wider than the tire, it is crazy but, Spesh is spending the dough on tunnel time.

the title needs to be changed, there's no discussion on 1x

Hey everyone, run out and get a multi thousand dollar Shimano drivetrain to save 1W, but a couple watts from tire to tire is negligible. I've done the math, crunched all the numbers. Most versatile drivetrain made is SRAM AXS etap 50/37 with the 10-33 cassette.

Articulate guest who conveyed the information in an easy to understand way.

Shimano has been on the cutting edge for years and its always great to have the latest and greatest. I still maintain that the everyday rider gets too hung-up on equipment. It's the rider. The pros ride what they're given. Tire width and pressure, ok.

1x is all marketing BS. Single chainring?! Give me a break. SRAM is just doing it because they can’t make a front derailleur worth a damn. And Vingegaard was consistently getting gapped by Pogacar on the steep climbs on Pogacar’s accelerations because the stupid single chainring system meant Vingegard’s rear cassette cogs were spaced too far apart.

The only advantage to 1X is chain line for a specific ratio. Otherwise it's a non-starter given that to avoid chain drop you need to run a clutch on the rear mech and a chain ring that meshes with the chain. Otherwise you will drop the chain like Roglic did on the Giro TT. A chain catcher will not prevent that (it didn't help Roglic) or worse may even jam the chain. So a clutch is necessary as is the meshing chainring. Taken together this means a frictional loss that will likely exceed any gain from chain line. The friction inherent in my gravel bike drivetrain is noticeable in comparison to my road bikes. If they want to innovate to keep the chain straight this can only be done with a gearing system integral to the chainset or rear hub.
