I am definitely a recovering alcoholic. I drink non-alcoholic beer. It doesn't make me crave full-strength beer or other alcoholic drinks. That is my experience anyway.

I like the taste of some non alcoholic beers. I like the taste of beer more than I like to get drunk.

I'm a binge drinker. Once a week. Non alcoholic is a good replacement for me. I only drink it in a social environment. Better than real booze.

I tried Clausthaler Dry hopped last night for the first time. I'm 7 days sober with the exception of na beers. I don't know if I'd consider myself an alcoholic, but wanted to cut back this year. I have been having headaches the last few days though. I drank that beer last night thinking it was so good I'd pound a bunch of them back. Finished the one and that was enough. The taste was really good.

I think indeed they can legitimately help those with serious withdrawal DTs possibly - though you probably need medical treatment and care if DTs are involved, nothing to mess with alone.

Worst withdrawal symptoms I've ever had were with getting off SSRIs after a year - really bad withdrawal on the nervous system like a shocky constant panic. Doctors don't emphasize this risk enough - feels dangerous to quit cold turkey. I would slice them in half, and then another half, then more - tapering very gradually down to a 1/8~1/10 size and this got me off em after about 3 weeks. They didn't really work for me; exercise, meditation, and breathwork (really training how to properly belly breathe slow and deep in stressful situations) is way more effective for anxiety. Same for insomnia, breathing slower and slower mimicking the breath style when asleep is key and can indeed get the mind back into a hypnagogic trance for sleep.

I am truly happy that you have found your path that gets you through a healthy today...and I commend you for promoting your methods of staying healthy. I would urge you, however, to tread lightly with the way in which you disregard the paths of others that keep them healthy. Just because the method of one, doesn't fit another, doesn't stop it being right for the one. The rhetoric of "the room" has helped millions I'm sure, and I take nothing away from the good it does..but it is not for all who suffer. Our paths into alcoholism are as individual as the one walking it...so too can our journey out for those whom it works. "Dry drunk" is a philosophy that many don't subscribe to...I am one of those who doesn't. Your message comes from the best of places and your experience has tremendous value....as does that of many many many others.
Enjoy the healthiest of todays.

Guinness 0.0 tastes good but yeah, you get that inner feeling you described which goes aways in a while. Alcohol is a Monster and always will be

your right and wrong everyone is different..If you love beer but don't mix with alcohol I think they are great ! if you only drink to get drunk and that's your goal and your not a fan of the taste then it could bring a person back to booze !! cheers

This is specifically for ex alcoholic people, but not for someone that has never had alcohol dependance. I have drunk nonalcoholic beer for years and I have never drunk a drop of alcohol, nor even have the desire to dr
ink alcoholic beverages.

I'm an alcoholic. When I drink regular beer, drink alcohol I wish more and more alcohol. Even I want to drink rum or tequila, and so on. Currently I have four years without drinking regular beer (with alcohol) but four years drink beer without alcohol and I never get drunk again. If your AA sponsor is a tyrant. Or if you want to be zombies in AA do not drink beer without alcohol. I have done more damage AA meetings and sponsors stupid that all non-alcoholic beers I drank in my life.

I'm sober 25 years and I tried 00 Guinness and it reactivated an old trait. I started to crave drink again even in the mornings. It's called romancing the drink. Even though it tasted nice but it's dangerous for me.
