Like Someone In Love - Official Trailer (HD)

Fresh from the triumph of his Tuscany-set Certified Copy (NYFF 2010), master filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami travels even further afield from his native Iran for this mysteriously beautiful romantic drama filmed entirely in Japan. Like Someone in Love revolves around the brief encounter between an elderly professor (the wonderful 81-year-old stage actor Tadashi Okuno, here playing his first leading role in a film) and a sociology student (Rin Takanashi) who moonlights as a high-end escort. Dispatched to the old man by her boss—one of the professor's former students—the young woman finds her latest client less interested in sex than in cooking her soup, talking, and playing old Ella Fitzgerald records (like the one that gives the film its allusive title). Eventually, night gives way to day and a tense standoff with the student's insanely jealous boyfriend (Ryō Kase); but as usual in Kiarostami, nothing is quite as it appears on the surface. Are these characters—who conjure in one another the specters of regret and roads not taken—meeting by chance, or is it fate? Is this love, or merely something like it?

This type of films have deeper meaning, symbolism & story into it, as I was told. I've watched countless of movies with this kind of pacing & storytelling & most of the time it's really hard to get. A second or third watching might help or taking notes while watching it. I got the hang of it after a while.

For some reason, you'll really get hooked into it while watching and once you're really into it, you won't notice that it is indeed slow paced and kinda draggy at times. For me, it's a good movie. Worth a watch.

Like most trailers for contemplative movies (especially foreign ones), it tries to pass the movie as something it is not. This movie shines on other fields than the ones you must be accostumed to with mainstream American cinema.

after "the men who wouldn't share her" screenshot there's a shot of the taxi driver who doesn't have anything to do with the storyline hahaha trailers can be so misleading. The movie is great though. I enjoyed it better than Certified Copy too, just like one of the critics pointed out.

I liked the movie, It could have lasted twice as long as far as I was concerned, given the slow pace of the scenes. Too bad the ending was so abrupt. On a sidenote, Akiko must be the cutest hooker ever.

I thought the movie was decent. The non-ending though was disappointing to me. Just as the story was getting started and it was getting interesting, it ended. I guess this movie was more of an ambiant artistic expression rather than a full-fledge story.

Why the background music? And also this trailer is basicly the entire movie plot, without the last 30 seconds, so I'd rather people not watch something like this before the movie. The on-screen text also gives away things which are not clear in the movie or is completely untrue at times! WTF
