Fascinating how the 'style' of packaging (including, and in particular, this software packaging) seems to noticeably change rapidly enough, to the extent that it is intuitive to me what period a particular software comes from. Sometimes I see old software around, and that 'early 90s' look is both near-unmistakable and reminds me that it's something symbolic of a bygone era. Right alongside those boxes they used to come in, often with an instructional manual the size of a book. I still have a Word 97 manual around, for example, and it's just like any paperback book. Nowadays, no box, no book-sized manual (if any at all), plastic case. Collectors will probably be aware of this better than anyone, seeing the changes with their own eyes as they look at the old and the new side-by-side.

Considering that the 'early 90s' look seems to have been transitional, that makes me wonder whether in decades time the look will have again changed, or whether it's here to stay as the end result of a linear path having finally reached its end (of course, actually having physical media for software will likely one day end, but the 'style' will continue on its advertising and so on).

And if so, will those who read this comment in decades time have found this video (presuming it's still here) simply out of the sheer curiosity of wondering: 'What, software was actually stored on physical media once!?'

Even though it is called "Office 2000" on the box it doesn't say it is made for Windows 2000. Office XP was the first one to be "Designed for Windows 2000" as well as with Me and XP. Not sure why
