This is insane. I don't think the guys at DreamWorks 15 years ago, expected their backburner film to still be loved today more so than ever. And I can't even begin to imagine how William Steig, the original creator of the Shrek children's book, must feel seeing that some little story he wrote in the later part of his life has left such an astounding impact on millions of people's lives from all over the world, with many coming together to recreate his story in their own truly unique and truly creative way. It's astonishing to see how beloved this character and franchise is, whether it's ironic or not. Shrek has a fan base that is unlike any other. One that would pull something like off, just for the hell of it. For the laughs. For the joy. For the things William Steig would want to bring out from people. I hope Illumination does a great job with the reboot. Shrek is one of those stories that should be retold for countless generations, from anyone and everyone, through the movies, books, even internet memes and fan creations such as this one. Like a true modern fairy tale.
