Conic Sections: The Parabola part 2 of 2

This video explains how to graph a parabola given in general form by rewriting it in standard form.

If the parabola opens up or down, we could select more values of x and then solve for y. If the parabola opens left or right, we could select y values and then solve for x. Remember we can use the symmetry across the axis of symmetry to plot 2 points for every 1 we find.

i have a question as such that boggles me....

"Deduce that if N(n, 0) is a point on the x-axis, then there is only one normal line passing through N when n < 2a,
but if n is greater than 2a, 3 normal lines pass through the point...
how can we have 3 normals passing through the one point ?

if a line is not perp to the tangent line - then its not a normal...?

is this something to do with the focal point ?
