If the focus is at, say, (5, 2) and the given directrix is y=-2, you can conclude that the vertical distance between them is 4 units, correct? So half of those 4 units is 2, which is your 'p' value. And since they are all vertically oriented, you can find the vertex at (5, 0) and can proceed to complete the problem.
