I always enjoy your video's and decided to change the fork oil on my 2003 FXSTB. It turns out that the caps are under no tension! The springs are both retained by a nut in the tube (41 mm factory type). So it is very easy to remove the caps (with or without lifting the front wheel) and the oil drain screws at the bottom, let it sit for a while and put the drainplugs in again. I then searched for the correct amount of oil and it was 356 ml.

Another great video Del and Penny, I think this one will be getting a lot of hits for years to come, helping people demystify fork oil changes. I know I would not be without my vacuum pumps, they save so much time. Penny and you have a great week. Cheers

Tell you what mate - I almost didn’t click on your video but after watching it I’m going to order a little vac pump and do the fork oil on my 09 FXDL. Top presentation, editing, no bullshit. Cheers mate! Mitch - Bowral, NSW, Australia.

That's a lovely looking bike. Love the paint. Watching this for my '13 Street Glide. Bit more involved I guess but overdue. All the best.

Glad that my Wide Glide has drain plugs at the bottom of the fork tubes. Ridiculous if they've stopped putting those in.

Love your videos. I find them very educational and easy to follow. I was curious, My HD has two different screws that can be use to remove the fork oil. With one of the screw located on the bottom side of the fork it makes it very easy to drain out the fluid. The other screw, the islocated at the bottom of the fork but the axel cap must be removed in one side. I truly do not understand why HD did not use them on these models. By the way, the forks used on my bike are Japanese (Showa) and the bleeding pan screw part # 45858-77. Sadly, I had to come up with a better screw than HD offers. I used a M8 -1.25 x 10 Button Head Cap Screw in SS.

Thanks again for taking the time and educating us with your skills.

That's awesome. I should be good because I put new Forks in about 2 years ago. But I'm going to definitely buy that manual vacuum extractor. You and Penny have a wonderful week and Ride safely.

Thank you! I'm coming up on 50k miles and I haven't done this yet so now I'm a little nervous about how bad my bike has needed it.
I love your videos. You make it easy to understand and leave me confident that I can do this without too many issues.

now then delboy, before i go on love all your videos and respect the way you spanner, just returned back to biking and treated meself to a 2008 dyna superglide shes mint with only 7000 dry british miles, always loved doing my own repair and upkeep but only small job was to stiffen forks and after watching this vid i got meself a vacume pump and went to graft, after both fork legs only gave me 480ml /cc each ( the book said about 780 cc) i decided to remove legs and turn upside down and hey presto the remaining oil was there, after inspection :MY fault: i found the suction tube didnt pass the OROFICE down into lower fork leg, so in summary brill vid but to anyone doing the oil change make sure you pick the bones out of all vids you watch and always always have a good service manual present.
please keep up the good work and keep smiling
ben
p.s used smith and allen 15wt, much better now not so much bounce and less dive.

Love this dude. Installing progressive springs on the '13 fxdwg today. Its always been a bit daunting to me but, you make it look simple.

Great job! Just giving my penny: you don't need to spend money with the suction pump. Just buy a bigger hose which one side touch the bottom of the fork and another side goes into a basin bellow the bottom level of the fork. Then, you just need to suck with a cheap manual pump and let the gravity works! For sure both methods (except the first one) work in the same way letting a little bit of old oil inside. Also, I'm not so comfortable with this measurement method once it could shows a erroneous read in case the fork was already at the incorrect level before due to leaks or anything else. So, I think it's better to follow the specs amount. Btw, thanks for the lesson.

I stumbled across your videos and i think it was the quickest that i subscribed to a channel. they are so awesome; they make me want to be British. lol i found a 1997 heritage that was sadly wasting away in my landlord's barn. You cover everything that i need to do in this entire series, and it's greatly appreciated. i apologize if i missed it, but any idea what size socket the forks take? ive ordered a manual, but it hasn't arrived yet. keep up the good work!

You can make markings on the container for the pump so you measure how much came out. Thank you for the lesson.
