Georgia Tech and Florida State’s miraculous, unexpected ending in 2015 deserves a deep rewind

Florida State and Georgia Tech are tied at 16, but the 9th-ranked Seminoles are looking to end it with a 56-yard field goal. The moment that comes next captures what makes college football so incredible.

A made field goal would give Florida State 29-straight wins against ACC opponents, a mark that would tie their own record set in the 90s. It would keep their quest for a third straight unbeaten regular season alive. And it would be one more cruel twist of the knife lodged in Georgia Tech this year. The Yellow Jackets are left praying for a miracle and not a second straight week losing by a last-second 56-yard field goal. While they’ve fallen far from their 11-win season a year ago, they haven’t backed down tonight, and if they can derail Florida State’s playoff chances, they’d be doing so in front of their home crowd on homecoming weekend. This was the first college football game I ever watched. I just happened to show up at a bar before the rest of my friends, and sat near a Tech fan (who was the only other one in the bar) who nicely explained the difference between college and pro football, then proceeded to lose his mind after this play. Bought a round of shots for us and we’re still friends to this day.

Love these rewind videos. IMO this is the craziest/best ending to a football game ever. The fact that it was an insane upset, CFB’s best kicker, and actually players making plays (instead of a massive coaching mistake like another famous kick 6 that happened in recent history) makes it so special.

Honestly as a lifelong college football fan, growing up in the south…tech always being a butt end of the joke…..this is straight chills.
