I can remember having this toy Mercury wind-up motor, I'd say it was mid 80'z. That little replica motor was one of my prized possessions because I could attach it to pretty much anything that would float and make it zip around the tub or pool.
It wasn't until recently I came across a Old school Mercury logo and it made me think about that little wind-up motor I had I haven't thought about that in a hot minute.
I wasn't surprised to see That Mercury motors are still a kick-ass outboard motor but, the price slapped me in the face because I had no idea that they hit for that much.
Just like anything else if you want quality you're going to pay for it. 💯

Curious what the top speed is with this motor on a standard 20-ish ft fishing boat. I grew up around boats in the 90s.
My neighbor had a Merc 200 on a 19-20ft Nitro when that 200 was the big dog outboard, probably '96-'97.

Went out with him a few times and he let me drive it on calm morning water. Hit 72mph, and it'd run mid 60s all day long without even stressing. I know the law of diminishing returns heavily applies to horsepower in boats, but this type of setup has to run 80mph or so I'd think?
