In this Microsoft Excel video tutorial I explain how to convert or assign dates to their fiscal year and quarter. This can be done fairly easily using an approximate match VLOOKUP. Other functions used in this tutorial are EDATE, IF, INDEX and SUMIF.

Table of Contents:

00:00 - Introduction
00:04 - Use EDATE to list the first date in each quarter
00:48 - Use IF to return the correct fiscal year for each quarter
01:33 - Use an approximate VLOOKUP to lookup the quarter and year for each date
02:40 - Concatenate Qtr and Year Using INDEX
04:37 - Use SUMIF to calculate the total revenue for each quarter

Thank you for the video. It helped me to assign a date to the correct FY.

I have a question about inserting long functions into cells, especially expressions containing multiple functions:

Have you ever used soft returns, i.e., alt enter, and extra spaces to enable cell formula logic to be more easily understood, like the indented code hierarchies that other programming languages support?

I just found and subscribed to your channel. The videos are very helpful! As I just found the channel I do have a question about a VBA project. I need to move data from one worksheet to another based on a cell value. The data also needs to be added to the next available line on the new spreadsheet. The data gets updated daily and the worksheet currently has over 1, 400 lines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
