Remembering 9/11 - A Look Back at How America Came Together on September 11, 2001

Twenty-two years ago today, the world stood still as we witnessed the horrific events of September 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people died, but, as the ashes settled, the people of America rose up, forsaking political and ideological allegiances, choosing to love their neighbors as themselves. Let us today be reminded of the bond we forged together then and, rather than choosing bitterness and division, may we choose love and peace as we honor the lives of those we lost. That is our prayer on this 22nd anniversary of 9/11.

“The cross tells us that God understands our sin and our suffering and, from the cross, God declares, ‘I love you.’ The story does not end with the cross. For Easter points us beyond the tragedy of the cross to the empty tomb. It tells us there is hope for eternal life, for Christ has conquered evil, and death, and hell. My prayer today is that we will feel the loving arms of God wrapped around us as we know in our hearts that He will never forsake us as we trust in Him. And this is going to be a day we remember as a day of victory.” — Rev. Billy Graham, Sept. 14, 2001

It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen these videos or watched the documentaries. It still takes my breath away.

I live in Australia. Maybe America thinks the world may have forgotten and moved on. I can only speak for myself. I haven''t. Been emotional the last few days approaching the anniversary. Blessings and love from Australia.

"I hope I live, I hope I live." When I heard the person say those words, a shiver came down my back.

Our world has changed since then and not for the better. Rest in Peace all souls who lost their lives that day. The rest of us should strive for a world without war but peace. The US has become fragmented politically and needs to unite again and become the United States.

I was 8 years old. I was supposed to be in school. I will never forget walking into the living room to my mother crying. She didn't say anything. Just opened her arms and hugged me. We sat in silence as we watched, time practically stood still. The images I saw on the news are burned into my brain. I can never forget that day and I will never forget our response to come together.

I’ll never forget that day. I was in my second grade classroom teaching as usual. I noticed loud voices in the hall, teacher’s voices. I walked to the door and heard about the first tower. We could not leave our children alone. I told my class I would find out later what had happened. It was time for P.E., so I took my boys and girls to the gym, and hurried to the film room where they had set up a TV for us. My best friend was already there. I grabbed her hand and we watched the rerun of the first plane. We could hardly speak. Then the second plane hit, and we were in a state of shock. We said a prayer for God to help these poor people. We had to leave shortly and pick up our students. I let them talk a little while about what had happened. Then I got them back to their lessons for my sake as well as theirs. We all managed to finish out the day. We all hurried home and watched TV practically all night. I know we all did this in the whole country that fateful day and weeks and months to follow. And now we watch it again this day all these years later. It will stay with us as Pearl Harbor did with our parents and grandparents. God bless all the people who lost their lives. God bless their loved ones left behind. ♥️🙏🏻🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🏼🙏🏾♥️🇺🇸🌎

I was 15, 000km away from those towers that day. As a 12 year old Australian, who didn't fully comprehend the tragedy; but could see it was written on my mums crying face, clear as day, as if those poor souls were our own family. Rest in peace to the victims and to those that perished from conditions and cancers thereafter.

It warms my heart to hear from so many people around the world who commented today and wished us well. They haven’t forgotten that terrible day and have offered their remembrance towards America. I want to say thank you to the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Brazil, Canada, Germany and Australia for your kind thoughts for those we lost and the first responders we continue to lose.

I wasn’t born at the time of 9/11 but learning about it in school looking at these videos and reading articles I don’t know how people back in 2001 no matter if you were in New York, Washington, or any other state were able to handle the situation

and to those who lost a love one in the attacks my condolences, and to all those first responders, who either passed away, attempting to save people or came out alive. Thank you for your service

That was so beautifully made. I was showing my son what actually happened and we came across this video. I am bawling. It captured every single emotion I felt when I watched all of that happen. Even though I was in Oklahoma I was IN New York with every single American. Again, so well done.

I'm Irish and was barely 18 when this happened. I'll never forget where I was or how I reacted. Absolutely devastating and it will never be forgotten. May all those souls rest peace 🙏

I was only 8 years old when this happened. But I remember the moment so vividly. And I remember watching the spirit in the USA shift in the weeks afterwards. After 9/11 nobody was black or white, poor or rich, nobody was democrat or republican, we were all Americans. And we're were all there for each other.

Now 30 years old, I cried uncontrollably watching this again. I didn't expect that, but it's proof of how this day changed us all.

God bless America 🇺🇸

I was only 4 years old in the UK, but I remember coming home from school and my dad being glued to the TV, watching these events unfold. I knew something was seriously wrong. I still remember that day vividly...

To this day the words of Billy Graham evoke a feeling of peace and hope after such a terrible tragedy!

Today more than ever, we need powerful preachers like Billy, who can unite us all under the word of God, as only God can heal this broken world!
