All developed nations should have this approach towards zero waste.

Singaporean here. Yes, we have such waste-to-energy (WTE) plants but i wouldnt say it's "zero trash". Excess incineration ash n non-incineratable trash is sent to Semakau landfill. Our one and only landfill (and it's running out of space). Interesting fact: it's green and lush for a landfill. Can't disregard the effort of our govt, so really proud of this initiative!

35 years ago I was in Singapore. What sticks in my mind is the boat going around the harbor that had a scoop device on the front. It went around the harbor all day long scooping trash out of the water

They built one of these in Ontario, Canada in a residential area, not near the scale of this, and was mainly used to burn off toxic trash rather than polluting the ground. The only problem is the filters don't get changed as they should and residents are exposed to disgustingly high levels of toxic chemicals, sure there wasn't smoke but the government will cheap out any way they can. If we could achieve this without the corruption it'd be a great step forward!

I lived in Singapore for 7 years . I have never seen a city so clean and safe.

In case you're wondering; Singapore does this due to extreme land limitations. It is very smart for their specific situation, but wouldn't work everywhere. Burning trash creates horrendous pollution that is very expensive to mitigate. Doable in Singapore for a cost (Singapore is uber expensive to live in for many reasons, this is one of them), not so feasible in most places.

Been to Singapore twice, it's the clean city state ideal. Definitely the best movie theaters in the world😅.

My Father in law work for years in NYC Sanitation Department incinerator and I would ask him why doesn’t the City use the heat from the incinerator to generate electricity and he was always told that Con Edison would not let the city generate its own electricity! Finally the city closed all the incinerators and ConEdison has a monopoly on electricity! How’s that for a Kick in the Pants!

Nashville, TN had a trash burning plant . The electricity was used to power the downtown buildings. But they decided it was more important at that time to build a new baseball stadium and tore it down.

In Denmark we also have a similar waste system, but our trash bins have different waste systems. We have for 4-6 different categories like plastic, cardboard, food waste, glass etc. all our products then have marks that says which bin it belongs in.

In Italy some incinerators do the same. There's some ash that might be used for laundry cleaners too because of it's components. Other for construction.

My late parents traveled Asia and Singapore was their favourite city. They walked the streets late at night feeling safe, comfortable because it was so clean and people were proud of their city.

So proud of Singapore! I’m a Filipina living here for 15 years now, I respect this country too much, I went for interview with a YouTuber and I shared all my feelings about having Singapore as our home, imagine the world like Singapore❤️🇸🇬 I will be talking about this in my channel to just share my little tribute and gratitude for Singapore to a Filipina like me❤️

This very same system was proposed to the Philippines in the 90's. It was approved by Congress but Environmental activities fought it in court and on the streets saying this system would pollute the air, even though experts explained there will be air purifiers in the buildings. The so called "green movement" was so popular at the time they managed to kill this project. What a shame.

We burn trash for district heating and electricity as well here in denmark, but their ash reuse is interesting.

In Switzerland, we use the same system. That along with Hydro and some nuclear covers most energy needs. Of course heating oil and gas are still used by many. Solar and heat pumps are just starting to catch on.

Yeah, the country i live in makes you buy 4 different trash bags for recycling and the day they pick up the trash it all goes in the same garbage truck and get's mixed together 😂. The best part is that if you put your garbage in the wrong bags, they won't dispose it for you..
