When I was in high-school we had our thesis and came up with the idea of burning the plastics but not emit hazardous smokes. Our goal is to eliminate plastics but not harm the environment by burning it.
So, our main problem is how we gonna do that.

We consult our teacher regarding this as to how to do that and said that "that is impossible."

We drop our thesis study and think of a new one.

7 years later... I watched this.

If only we fight for our ideas that it is not impossible

Note to self: not because someone said it is impossible doesn't mean there is no way to do it... not even your teacher.

In Singapore, where trash becomes ash, plastics are still a problem.
A report said each person in Singapore threw away an average of 13 bags a day.

The tip on Semakau island was supposed to meet Singapore's dumping needs until as late as 2045, according to environment ministry documents. But with the use of disposable products growing at a rapid rate, the ministry's most recent estimates show that Semakau could be full a decade earlier.

Singapore is lagging behind peers such as Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia in reducing single-use plastics, largely due to public sentiment there.

The Singapore Environment Council found that Singaporeans use 467 million PET bottles and 473 million single-use plastic items such as takeaway containers each year. Only 4 per cent of all plastics in 2018 were recycled.
This consumer behaviour contributes to the 1.56 tonnes of waste produced by Singapore households in 2018. About a third of this is single-use items such as plastic bags and food packaging – enough to fill 10 Olympic size swimming pools per household per year.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong has been charging consumers for plastic bags since 2015 and Thailand went a step further by banning plastic bags. Indonesia has just announced a ban on single-use plastics from street markets and shopping malls in its capital Jakarta from June 2020 onwards. Such charges appear effective at reducing consumption. Denmark was the first country to tax plastic bags in 1994 and today, a Dane uses just four single-use plastic bags a year. When the Netherlands charged for bags in supermarkets in 2016, there was a 71 per cent drop in consumption.
A government survey showed only one-fifth of Singaporeans want charges levied on plastic bags and seven in 10 would prefer greater public education.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is proposing that from next year, supermarkets charge 5 to 10 Singapore cents per bag.
“Such excessive consumption is unsustainable. It not only uses up resources, but also adds to Singapore’s carbon emissions when they are incinerated in our waste-to-energy plants, ” it said.

I really hope all the countries around the globe use the same method of dealing with trash. It would certainly make a spectacular impact on the environment around us.

I literally thought of this a year ago and everyone I knew hated my idea because they thought there was no way to filter the smoke. I’m also very young, I’ll become a scientist one day and help get rid of pollution.
