For the second problem, how did yuo find beta and gamma?

If (u) is the displacement function of a beam that predicts the value of displacement at any given x, would it be necessary to nondimensionalize (du/dx) a.k.a "mechanical strain, or the first derivative of displacement"? The way I see it is that du/dx is dimensionless already because If we look at the derivative as a ratio, it is [L]/[L]. Plus, intuitively, strain is a dimensionless measure in and of itself. Am I correct?
