To all those complaining that we need to focus on Earthly matters and that this is a waste of money and that we need to "get our priorities straight", um, hello: The sciences do not focus on just one thing at a time. There are government agencies and other branches of science working on all our other problems, too. When it comes time to pay your bills (when you have money to do so), do you just say, "well, I'll just pay the water bill this month - screw the electric bill." No, you pay them both - because you need them both. If you have kids, do you decide to feed them or clothe them that day? You do *both.* The space program isn't JUST ABOUT SPACE. Do you know how many inventions that NASA has come up with, or that they have improved, or that other companies came up with *for* them, that spill over into our everyday lives?
Your laptop, for instance, which you type all your complaints into. (Not saying they invented computers, I'm referring to your laptop: they didn't invent it, but they *are* the main reason your computer fits on your desk and doesn't take up an entire room). Your computer mouse. Your camera phone. LED's. Ever use wireless headsets to listen to music? (while you're wasting time and could be solving all your other problems * sarcasm * ). Are you a firefighter or do you know any? Have any saved your home? Well, their safety equipment they need to, you know, not burn to death, have been improved because of knowledge gained by studies meant for the space program. The scanner you scan your damn groceries with. Ear thermometers. Freeze dried foods. Ever go camping and need to warm up with a foil blanket? CAT scans - ever need one of them? You can thank these companies if you ever need to get rescued by the Jaws of Life, or need a heart pump or an artificial limb. Any war-torn area need those pesky land mines removed?
It's not just about watching rockets launch and leaving Earth behind. It's about improving our lives and seeing how things work. That's what ALL exploration leads to.
Expand your minds.
Edit: And all those people talking about "devil's work" - I guess you'd better stop typing into that EeeEEvil computer of yours. You are complicit, are you not?

One day, we will travel to Mars, with our people, establish a colony, that day, will be one of the greatest achievements of humanity, that is the day, I hope I live to see it.

despite the exorbitant price, using ULA to launch expensive missions makes sense. they have never had a launch failure in 135 missions. the James webb will launch on a Ariane, which "only" has a 95% success rate. Still if it fails the James Webb2 won't be ready to launch until 2050, if then.

Excellent delivery to space by the team. Another successful mission off to a good start.

Space science is always wonderful! But because it was handled by a government agency the cost was almost certainly 10x the cost it would have been had it been handled by the private sector.

If the aliens obliterated the rocket ship there will be news blackout.

This reminds me of the original planet of the apes. With all this 2020 mayhem imagine the world ends with apes taking over. Then we have just send astronauts to mars but they end up in the future with talking apes😂. I know we aren’t sending humans to mars yet. It would just be cool if we did and it happens to end up like the plot of the 1960’s Planet of the apes.

The last Martian sits in his family home just doin' Martial stuff when he is discovered by Americans.

The last Martian to ever exist extends a tray of Martian fudge: "Glirp...?"

America: the eagle."
