*NOTE:* There’s been some confusion about whether this video is correct, so I want to clear that up. I completely understand the points raised, but rest assured, the methods shown here are the best way to get the most out of your display.

Sony’s instructions use the ‘barely visible’ method because it’s simpler for the average user to understand and still yields a good result, but it does tell the PS5 your display has a lower peak brightness and higher minimum luminance than it actually does. The method(s) in the video on the other hand, ensures you get the full dynamic range of your TV/monitor.

I hope this clears up any confusion & you find this video useful; I've certainly noticed a big difference since setting this up properly myself. 😊 Also, Merry Christmas! 🎅

HGIG just makes everything look too dark.
I understand it will make the best of the HDR but overall, in my opinion it's just not worth it.
This opinion is based on a 65 inch LG C1 which doesn't have an evo panel, so the TV doesn't go as bright as the C2 etc
With this tv I have tone mapping on to improve the overall brightness.

I don't like using HDR purely for the fact that the screen gets darker. It irritates me, I like having a bright, vivid colour popping screen. I don't like taking any hits in that department.

This video was an absolute godsend for me. I have a Hisense U8K, and following the system instructions of turning it up until the sun is barely visible actually pushes it way beyond my TV’s peak brightness of 1, 500 nits. Which would explain why the HDR image in my games felt so washed out. This was a big help

I wish that default settings for these things weren't as misleading as they can be.

HDR defaulting to always on is terrible, most gamers won't ever even open that setting and forcing HDR on unsupported games just washes them out and completely destroys the image the developers were aiming to offer you.

Just bought the 77” Samsung S90D and I love it!!! All of these tips are accurate. Great job!

I recently learned that the first step is referring to full frame luminance or peak brightness in a 100% window. Step 2 is referring to the peak brightness in a 10% window, and step 3 is your black level floor which should (almost always) be set to 0. I wish this kind of thing was explained out of the box. After adjusting to the appropriate nits for my TV, all media I view or play now looks incredible.

For Sony tv users,
Sony Bravia users need to do nothing as your tv will calibrate and synchronize with your tv if Your tv supports Auto HDR calibration. This works with 2023-2024 tvs.
För Me it was 21 clicks as the tvs does 2300 nits.

Great Video, buddy. I've been caught up in this HGIG dilemma for years now. I have the LG G3. It's a really bright, amazing TV, then I turn on HGIG, and the picture really gets dim, in a dark room, it's OK. Because not all games support HGIG, I turn it off. I came from the LG CX, which was a cracking tv, but with HGIG, it was even worse. 👍

The issue I have with this is that the screen is so dark that it isn't fun to play even at night. It is just dark. And the PS5 menu is even darker than the games. So I need to turn on contrast enhancer.

Happy I came upon this video. Made my Samsung Q90T colors pop and not over saturate. 👍🏻

Just bought a PS5 today, and it will be here in a few days. Will be hooked up to my brand new LG C4 I bought 2 weeks ago for an incredible price brand new. My first agenda is going back and playing D1 since I never did get to finish it. My PS4 broke just before Rise Of Iron came out, and I decided to upgrade my PC for BF4 instead of fixing it since I was already a PC gamer before I ever bought a console. PS4 was my first one, and I seriously only bought it to play Destiny 🤣

Thanks for the vid!
How about the game mode setting? Do we have to turn it on or adjust anything?

FZ830 from Panasonic (2018, bought 2019) works very well albeit not having the latest bells & whistles: no DV, VRR, LLM, 120hz, 1440p.

It seems like you missed a step? Count clicks until sun disappears, then...? Add 10% more clicks? Back 10%? Leave it at sun disappeared? - but then why count clicks? Something is missing

Nothing against this video i wish see could more gameplay showing off what hdr does to the game or what the difference was like a before and after. Everyones made these videos and yet none of them show much gameplay or any at all. Could you recommended me a video to watch.
