Idk if it's just me but it seems kinda racist just cuz she's pissed that she brought tamales instead of a traditional food?

If it’s stupid for them to be upset, then it’s stupid for you to be upset. I hate when people use “it’s not a big deal” when they are the ones making it a big deal.

OP, YTA. It was racist, since you had to point out her ethnicity in concordance with the food. Everyone has different foods for the holiday. I would never come to your house for a holiday ever again.

Yta... Stop being a b and accept her Mexican culture as well ... If everyone is bringing traditional food that you want how about tasting tamales for a change its not gonna kill anyone to try something new

She needs to actually look into what Tamales are. They aren't even close to being sweet rolls in any way.

Tamales are traditional Mexican food served at events. She needs to stop being such an entitled brat.

IDK, as a Mexican, I have been in similar situations. I don't think she's an asshole; I just think she's a bit ignorant. It will go away once she tries the tamales. 😂

Yta that’s extremely rude of you… it’s not like tamales are gonna be the only dish… also tamales are delicious… and if you are not open to try it then don’t but don’t complain about it either…

Tamales are 🔥 I would rather have them than any other Thanksgiving food and she did not just come up with that dish

Personally don't think was racist. All she said to the lady was is that all you're bringing? If she made a complaint about the food to the woman then yes. But as for mentioning the race of the wife, it is important to the stories as she is making tamales. I think that people are making this a bigger deal than it needs to be. Tho she might have been a little rude it wasn' intentional. Besides most people have an American view of Thanksgiving it is not that out there for her to be confused as to why she would bring tamales. Unless this isnt her first time making a disrespectful comment i think yall doing to much

Yta. There's a lot of people who would love to try them and even if they don't want to eat that specific dish, there's other dishes they can eat instead. Would you tell other guests not to bring a turkey simply because a one guest didn't like it? It's kinda racist and as someone whose family always brings our own traditional sweets to parties like these, it really shouldn't matter. Food is food. Your SIL is trying things outside of their traditional culture so it wouldn't kill you to just accept hers

Yta. Everyone else is bringing something, so there shouldn't be an issue... unless you have something against the culture she comes from?

Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday. We don't bring turkey to Cinco De Mayo.
