5 Tools I Regret Buying…

Hey you! Thanks for being here!
In this video I’m going to be sharing 5 tools that I’ve purchased for my workshop that I kind of regret buying now. I want to preface this by saying that not all of these tools are bad tools, although some of them are (I’m looking at you Harbor Freight clamps). Some of these tools are just things that I find myself not really using very much over the years so I probably could have saved the money that I spent on them or used it to buy a different tool for the workshop. I realize though that everyone is different in their preferences when it comes to tools so some of these tools that I might regret buying could work perfectly fine for someone else. Budget is also a big factor for a lot of people when it comes to their tools. As a beginner, I was extremely budget conscious because I didn’t want to invest too much money into this hobby until I knew whether it was something I would stick with. And let’s be real…woodworking is NOT a cheap hobby! A lot of the tools that go along with it can be expensive so I totally understand why beginners buy some of the cheaper tools. I’ve been there myself. Now that I’ve been building pretty consistently for the last several years I feel like it’s a good time to stop and evaluate which tools I would not buy again as well as some of the ones I would recommend. I wanted to share some of these opinions with you guys. I hope you find them helpful!

If you want to take a closer look at any of the products that I mentioned in this video then I have them all linked below. I wanted to be fully transparent here and let you guys know that I am currently in the process of becoming an Amazon Associate. For those who don’t know what that means, it just means that I will be able to offer affiliate links to you guys for Amazon products that I recommend. If you guys happen to purchase a product through any of the links that I provide then I will make a small commission from that sale. It’s a simple way to help support me and my YouTube channel and I thank you in advance for the support! I take pride in what I recommend to people so I really want to be transparent in what I actually like and what I don’t. So that means for this video I will only include affiliate links for the products that I would actually recommend. I’ll include links for the 5 tools I regret buying but they won’t be affiliate links.

I've been woodworking for less than two years and just stumbled onto your channel while looking for instructins on how to fill knot holes-so I watched that one and several others. Your presentations are so honest and user friendly-I can actually relate. Thank you!!!!

I give you four outta five stars. I gotta have my Kreg cutting guide. I have a second saw (yup, I bought a saw to fit the bracket and it lives there) Kreg guide, the T-square style. The base bracket fits both guides. I fixed my 'slop' with a strip of electrical tape. Fixed the side to side wiggle and also created a bit of drag to keep me 'centered' and focused on the cut.

Totally agree with you five 'best'. I have it, or something quite equivalent to all five. The Amana countersink has already paid for itself simply by outlasting anything else I've purchased for countersinking #6 & #8 tulip head screws. I also like the repeatability of depth...it soothes my OCD. I have four Bremen parallel clamps (two 24" and two 48") and really like them.

Great lists, thanks for the video! You're about the 3rd person I've seen this week using that countersink bit. Time for me to get it 😊

Pocket jigs are definitely a necessity. I'm not a wood worker but certain projects I've done around the house needed pocket holes and my Mulwark jig makes things much easier.

The one tip I can give is about tape. Two sides tape or any painter tape. Never let the tape on, remove it soon as you are done.

As a beginner this was useful. I’ve quickly learn the same about the harbor freight trigger clamp. I’m going to give their aluminum bar clamps a try. They seem to do well enough once you install a strip of wood in the empty channel.

That saved me some trouble with the track saw. Thanks!

Enjoyed the video! This is the first time I've seen your channel so I subscribed and will have to check out other video's you've made.

Have you tried the Harbor Freight panel clamps? I tried them at the store and they were really sturdy.

Totally with you on the cheap wretched clamps, i bought another cheap brand and they are pretty much pointless.

On the parallel clamps though, which size would you recommend?

The best way to make your lumber stable is to store it in the installation area for a week before you use it.

From a professional, you'll find that a feed and catch table for your table saw will handle the breaking down of sheet goods.

Very cool video, I enjoyed hearing your honest opinion about the tools. Only complaint… no rusty dog in this one. 😂

No electroanalytical device is worth anything without calibration, no matter how high quality it is. You'd have to use kiln dried wood to get a standard, but with just one calibration point, you'll still always be extrapolating. Conductivity is just as good as neutron scattering if you have good statistics, though the noise floor would be different.

I agree with all of those. You’re going to love having a track saw. Your biggest regret will be not getting one sooner. All those years you can never get back 😂

The Kreg Accu Cut is doing it's job. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. It's a tool for hobbyists. If you have the room and the money for a track saw buy that but that's a whole different level of commitment to woodworking.

Kreg-anything I regret buying. Dunno why people like their stuff. It's the only tool company I know that uses cheap-feel-ness as it's value proposition yet doesnt price accordingly. That track guide for instance... ffs, what a waste of money, and it was most def not cheap. Between that and a few other methods I tried to get straight accurate cuts, I was already 1/5th of the way in to buying a Festool track saw. So I just did that.

Kreg has gotten so cheap in their quality. The pocket hole jigs are still great.

I buy all my clamps at Harbor Freight.
