My Japanese wife says that you should have gone back to the store and complained, she says they should be sweet and that the store should refund your money or give you a new one. They're pretty proud of their fruit in Japan (as I'm sure you've noted), and a lot of their stuff is superlative in quality. Bummer that this was a bad experience! Thanks for the videos, they're great.

"... All you're getting is a piece of fruit." That must be a hard thing for a fruit fanatic to say.

My fiancé grows little white strawberries, taste like candy, but nothing this size! I can't believe that was 7 dollars. Love your videos. keep it up 😎

From what I've heard, these strawberries are often picked underripe to preserve the complete lack of colour. If you see one with a bit of a pink blush to it, that might actually taste of something.

It's an Asian culture thing. It's prized for the absence of color, not the flavor.

I still keep coming back, you have inspired me to start buying all the tropical fruits i can get. Loving it.

I've never seen a strawberry that didn't have a cavity inside. That's the weird thing to me.

Great video. What a crazy looking strawberry! I'm visiting Indonesia right now, so I'll be doing some weird fruit exploring of my own for the next couple of weeks!

I have them in my garden. Here they are called Pinapple Strawberries. They taste really good!

I expected you to say "tastes like a pineberry". What a letdown for a $7 strawberry! This reminds me of white chocolate, looks cool but doesn't taste like the real thing. I guess some people will buy them simply because they're unique. By the way, I have a few pineberry plants in our yard and I hope they will bear fruits next summer. Can't wait.

Great video Jared. :) You know, I was going to suggest to make documentaries on being an insider for the process of fruits. For instance, like asking permission to film at farms and interview associates who can tour you through the process of developing the product. You could even throw in if they use GMOs or what causes them to look different. Live action fruit science.

I grew some of these strawberries, even freshly homegrown in summer sun, harvested fully ripe, eaten fresh with no refrigeration... an underwhelming strawberry. You mention the pineberry and the reason I purchased the white strawberries was they were marketed as "pineapple strawberries", but they had zero pineapple flavor. I thought the "pineapple strawberries" were a hoax. I spent some time trying to find your pineberry video but was unable to locate it. Where is it? I'm guessing you feature some other fruit and its a side topic.

I appreciate your investigation of these expensive japanese fruits. I am especially interested on the cultivation methods and fruit treatment that result in these premium fruits. The $80 mango being wrapped in plastic netting and being rotated for sun exposure blew my mind. Any chance you can visit some of these farms, or do an interview with an english speaking farmer that grows these premium fruits? I think many westerners would see an $80 price tag and dismiss it without consideration. Good on you for having an open mind.

My only criticism of your videos sir, I find myself skipping your intro graphics. 40 seconds is too long before you engage the viewer on the video topic. I'd try and cut this down to under 10 seconds. If you want to include some site images/video just cut through it quickly, maybe throw in a map or google earth zoom to convey location, and then do your thing (which is great btw).

The color white in japan represents purity and has a symbolic value in shinto, I would assume this is a reason why this is grown that way. The owner of these farms had a short segment done on another youtube channel showing how detailed the handpicking was, absolutely crazy.

I was waiting on your disappointed reaction to be honest - Saw a few other videos of people trying these out and they were all disappointed. They even look unripe and underwhelming. I'd only trust a white alpine strawberry, like the tiny one pictured early in the video.

A shame taste and sweetness is not a priority for these "luxury" fruits.
