Is DK Oldies really, honestly a scam?

This last Christmas I bought my kids a bunch of Gameboy games on DK Oldies, a popular online videogame store that also happens to have a very popular YouTube channel and a very controversial reputation for being a “scam”. But is DK Oldies really so bad? Today, we review our experience with DK Oldies and explore what we really think about their store, Joey - the popular host of the DK Oldies livestream - and discern whether or not they are, indeed, a scam.

I still think that dishonesty should not be tolerated and that makes it a scam. ReviewTechUSA and Jacob R's major point has nothing to do with the pricing. If people pay for an overpriced item, then that's on them. The pricing could be anything, it doesn't make it a scam, it's just that for us more educated, we know better. But their dishonesty comes from the fact that they don't clean or refurbish their consoles, even though they claim they do. They even claim that they refurbish every console before sending them out. Jacob R opened on a PS3 that was completely filled with dust on the inside, and every order had some sort of fault. If you can't make an order without having to send it back every time, then how would it not be a scam? I think we all just want them to be transparent with their work ethics, because no one likes to be lied to.

I have to respectfully disagree. If they are advertising Refurbished Consoles and Games at a premium that are just merely cleaned on the outside, then that qualifies as a scam in my book. The "excuse" of them being a fairly small business doesn´t fly either since it´s entirely, 100% on them, and them alone to try and punch way above their weight class. Just testing if a game or console powers on simply isn´t enough at their price point.

I mean, if you buy something like a OG XBox or PS3 from them and you could blindly trust them that the Systems they advertise as being Refurbished got fresh Thermal Paste, where properly cleaned on the inside, got new capacitors where needed, or that a NES got a fresh Cartridge connector doohicky just in case, then the price point would be justified and I bet they would have a much better reputation in the community. But knowingly selling stuff as refurbished that they didn´t even look at and hoping that it works for at least 12 Months is just completely insane to me.

I must live under a rock, I didn't know they had such a huge following on TikTok with livestreams and what not. I also don't live in the USA so that may be a factor too. Still a great video, the closing segment was funny.

Never Heard of DK Oldies. Glad you got your games wondering if it is faster/cheaper to pay a place in town to replace the battery. (Maybe not cheaper, but faster ibwpuld thibk)

Im 1 minute in the video, but This Is Amazing!!, as i live in 15 mins away from this place. I just recently bought a ps2 from a thrift/ antique shop. The AV cable was shot, no big deal, looked up shops in the area, and what do you know, DKo shows up XD. Said they had some stocked but it was an online retailer only... I could drive to the store, buy the cable, and two people are happy within a 30 min endeavor tops. But instead, im forced to wait up to possibly 5-13 days for a used cable, that could also be crap honestly, again 15 mins away for all that amount of time waiting. So moral of the story, F this place! If you live in the SEPA area, go to Players Choice in Pottstown tbh.

They provide 2 clear fake cases and at least one questionable pokewalker as a "free bonus"

Replacing batteries for those old game boy games is a pain in the ass and you could destroy the cartridge if not done right that is worth the money to have a game with save option that works.

Alot of those youtube videos they order consoles on he always bundles them with a game worth under $4 and some times its a game like Destiny aka a online only game that could be unplayable any time without warning and the kind wanting to buy from this site probally more offline/local multi player fans.

I bought some DS & 3DS games from them because their prices were cheaper than Ebay. The games came in great condition. However, I'd never trust them with any console or anything with a battery save due to what I've seen here and other videos online.

I'm not sure tying yourself up bondage style in short-shorts is going to attract the audience you hope for /s but I'm always grateful for another CCP video and appreciate the thoughtful take on the "DK Oldies controversy". I've never purchased from DKOldies but I think the 1 year warranty goes a long way (past the typical eBay sale) to make up for it and as long as the condition of inventory is represented honestly on the website, I definitely don't think it's a scam!

DK Oldies have tricked people into giving them their money. People buy a refurbished console and what they get is a strait up 2nd hand console, like they bought it from ebay, dirt and all, but for more money.

It's not incompetence, it's a scam. If they advertise it as being refurbished, it needs to be refurbished. I don't know why you're hinging your entire point on this. Your delivery is good in your video but your viewpoints are not. People do get upset about the price, but that's not what makes it a scam. You're right about that. It's advertising you are providing you are service and paying a premium for that - that simply isn't happening.

I am in agreement that the word "scam" is completely overused to the point it's meaningless. Now whenever something is expensive I hear people say it's a "scam" when they really mean it's just a bad value. Besides that, great video! I never really saw the point of DK Oldies as I feel even casuals would rather buy from a website they've likely used before (ebay), and they are instantly met with hundreds of search results claiming DK Oldies is a scam. Not to mention the much higher prices.
