Taking my highly upgraded Stampede 4x4 out for some fun on 3s!
Background on the truck.

I pre-ordered this truck back in 2010 when it first came out and was one of the first to get their hands on a Stampede 4x4.
Back then it was a pretty revolutionary truck as all we had before in this class was the Stampede 2WD which is a great truck in its own right but now we could do more and go more places faster with more traction and control.

After getting the truck and bashing for a few weeks i hate to say i was disappointed in the truck to say the least. I just didn't get anything out of it that the E-Revo couldn't do and the E-Revo did it better.

So i actually gave this truck to a friend for a few years who would enjoy the truck more than i would. He took good care of it and ran it. 4 or 5 years pass and i ended up getting the truck back. It needed some work and repair and i just didn't have it in me to fix it so it sat shelved for a few more years. I ended up using the power system for various different projects. ( The VXL system is a fantastic motor system )

Fast forward a few more years (2020 - 10 years since i got the truck) I ended up moving again which had me move all of my R/C stuff to the new house and when moving i came across this dusty and neglected Stampede 4x4 Roller with bad tires, trashed body, blown out bearings, and worn plastics. I almost had forgotten that i had this truck as it had been sitting basically abandoned in disrepair for 5 to 6 years. With the pandemic going on and nothing else to do i decided to finally give this truck the love that it deserved with a full rebuild.

New Bearings
New Steel Driveshafts (MIP Rear / Tekno Front)
New Rear Carriers (Auluminum)
New Body (Proline)
New Front Arms (RPM)
High Speed MG Servo
New Body Posts (RPM)
New Tires (Proline BL MX 2.8)
More probably i am forgetting.

Anyways, I set out to eliminate all of the shortcomings that had me sideline the truck as a serious basher in the first place. And I am happy to say at this point i believe i have achieved the goal. The truck is much more durable than it was stock, and this is with the stock VXL-3S power system. I think with 3S the stock power plant is plenty of HP for the platform. I think anymore power and you might as well get the HOSS as the Stampede will be struggling to put the power down and stay on all four tires.

So at this point i am happy to say I am able to enjoy the truck. On 3S its like having an E-revo on 5S so super fast! But not over the top crazy stupid break every part 6S fast that usually ends up with a broken truck after a short time.

Expect my full, final after 10 years review of the Stampede 4x4 soon. I believe the trucks days are numbered in Traxxas's lineup as the HOSS is a better truck and the MAXX is on another level. Still with the right upgrades this truck can be a real fun little beast that can hold its own.

Sorry for the long story.
I felt like this truck deserved it.
